How to disconnect Canadian Daytime Running Lights?????

Does anyone know how to dissable my Canadian daytime running lights. I have a 90 Gs. Thanks!!!

ANYBODY???:frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

I’d like to try this too, but haven’t had a chance. Under the dash, there is a secondary fuse box. Locate Fuse 17 which should be a 15A fuse. I THINK that’s the fuse to pull. I’m 50/50 on this.

Let us know,

Oz

If you have a 90, I believe it’s the red/blue wire you snip at the DRL relay module. I can’t verify this as I do not have a 90 and it was different the 91 - 93 G2s. Yes, they did the DRL wiring differently for this year only.

If you have a 91, 92, or 93 teg, either unplug the one smaller harness at the DRL relay that has the thick white/red wire going to it (the method I chose), or unplug the appropriate fuse as The_Oz suggested.

The DRL relay is located behind the passenger side lower kick panel.

simply unplug one of the 2 plugs on the DRL’s relay located in the passenger side kick panel… I have a 90 GS and the DRL’s relay was faulty(not letting me light up my parking lights) so I simply unplugged one of the 2 connectors and now everything is fine!

which plug to unplug?

I don’t remember which one… I think it’s the lower one, but not 100% positive. simply try it, unplug one of the 2 plugs and try to turn on your parking lights, if they are still working, it’s the right one! HTH

I just DID IT!!!

Well here’s how it goes. Well i did this for my 90 teg GS. You have to remove the passenger side kick panel. Behind this you will see a little black box that kinda looks like a computer with 2 plugs into it (this is the DRL, says right on it). You must disconnect the bottom plug, it is a grey plug. If you disconnect the top plug then you don’t have anymore parking lights, so it is the bottom plug that has to be disconnected. You have just dissabled your daytime running lights. Then just put the kick panel back on, and your all set. So guys, it ended up working.
Thanks for all your help.

Answer and Mikes_Teg, the reason why I suggested snipping the red/blue wire for the 1990 model teg for dissabling the DRL is because if you unplug the harness like we do for the 91-93 models, your E-Brake light on your guage cluster will no longer work when your E-Brake handle is up. Again, I can’t verify this because I don’t have that year car, but by looking at the wiring diagram for the various years, if you do it my method, you will still be able to dissable the DRL as desired yet have your E-Brake cluster light still work.

If it doesn’t bother you that the this light doesn’t work, then you can disregard my concern.

well, on my 90, unplugging the bottom plug didn’t bothered the e-brake warning light… but since a couple days, this particular light isn’t working anymore… but I disabled my DRL’s like 2 months ago… I’m leaning toward the burnt bulb, but maybe it has something to do with the DRL’s relay… i’ll try to check it on monday…

I disconnected my DRL today. I just pulled the bottom plug out an zip tied it to the other plug(just incase). But I did notice that the E-Brake light does not come on anymore. But I don’t use the E-brake to often anyways. And it worked fine… no lights 'cept when I used teh switch.

On another note I also rewired my Fog lights, but I didn’t cut the yellow/red wire, I just tapped into it. I can get my foglights to come on all the time, but now my headlights come on too! Just the headlights though, nothing else.

Could this be because I just tapped the wire instead of cutting it?

Yes, that’s why. Because the fog light activation switch draws its power from the main headlights (low-beam signal) via the red/yellow wire, if you don’t cut that wire before adding your alternate fog switch power wire, you will be back-feeding power to the low-beam headlights through that red/yellow wire everytime you activate the fog switch as you have witnessed.

You need to cut that red/yellow wire as described in the teg tips to correct this condition.

yeah, it does disable the parking brake idiot light.

but in my case, if I plug back the lower connector on the DRL’s relay, I won’t be able to light up my parking lights when the car is running. Don’t ask why, but it’s happening!

I tried to check in the haynes to see, but their wiring diagrams are like ****. If someone can help, it would be greatly appreciated! (before I start cutting each wires one by one! lol!)

TIA

EDIT: I solved the problem, I cut the black/yellow wire, the one which was sending the ‘engine running’ signal. Now everything works fine!
