how to do u kno if your clutch is gone

im a newbie to this car stuff and i wanted to know how do u know if your clutch is gone.

when you engage the clutch (foot off pedal) does the clutch slip? or chatter/shutter. thats usually a good sign of a worn clutch.

put it in a higher gear and floor it, if the revs go up and your speed doesnt then its done

when youre in first, giving it gas and going nowhere.

how do you know if it is going bad? When it starts chattering on takeoffs. like previously stated, go cruisin at a low speed, say 25 mph. You should be in second , but shift from second to third and floor it. If the rmp’s go up, and your speed stays 25, then its done.

make sure your not chirpin the tires either lol. might give false results

On road test’s i check it pretty much do what they do, but im in third at like 3000 driving down the road, then i hammer on the gas wile riding the brakes to keep a constant speed to see if it’s starting to slip, sometimes if your pedal is really high could mean, clutch is getting worn out, (or out of adjustment) but that’s diff. hope it helps

it stinks like a bum’s taint, as well.

from a dead stop, try and take off in third. if it stalls, the clutch wont have long

^^ What, if your at a dead stop and try to start in third, it should stall, if it doesn’t, then its slipping and is going out.

i think my clutch is goin bad den…and sombody also told me mayb i have to adjust my clutch. how do you adjust the clutch?

dont take off in third, geez that is a lot of pressure on the clutch  basically if the pedal grabs near the bottom, and feels not so stiff and slips…then its on its way out. Better to fix it ASAP instead of driving it until your car hardly moves

when you guys say chatter…is it like a squealing kinda sound?

mine does that…at the friction point, but it fully engages anyhow. :uhoh:

^^ Mine did that. And not long after that (maybe 5k) started slipping. Could just be coincidence :cross:

just do like was said earlier put it in a higher gear and floor it, if the revs go up and your speed doesnt then its done. try like 80km/h-90km/h in 5th and push the gas to the floor

mine makes a very faint chattering noise, it’s only 25k old (in my CRX) and it grabs perfectly and has no problems at all

Well were the pedal point for engagment has nothing really to do with the clutch slipping because whoever might have adjusted the clutch cable could have lowered it.

My engages high mid point, my friends is a brand new and engages a VERY low point. So it depends

Mines didn’t have any real signs of slipping and it just gave out from one of the springs in the clutch disk breaking.

So slipping clutch, unwanted vibrations from clutch engagment. Smell can be confusing because if you used the clutch alot in one day you may have burnt smell but it could be nothing then using the clutch to much in one day.

Noise like a bad whirling or scretch noise could be the throw out bearing giving out.

I dont know what to make of the noise…it sounds like squealing tires or something…But once fully engaged it stops and doesnt slip…only when the clutch plate rubs against the flywheel does it make noise…is the clutch plate contaminated with oil or something?

solid that is true, cause my first DA’s engaged at the top of the pedal but felt strong and never slipped. However my second DAs slipped BAD and grabbed at the bottom of the pedal

Please excuse me for not making a new thread but i thought it would just be a waste. Anyways, i know my clutch is low but last night my car stopped shifting into gears. So i coasted into a parking lot to see wtf was up, and i noticed that when i pressed the clutch pedal to the floor it wouldnt disengage from the gear it was in. I couldnt move the shift knob out of gear. Nor could i change into gears when in neutral. The only gear that had some give was reverse, and when i tried that it made a loud grinding noise. I know thats theres a clutch pedal adjustment, i just dont know where that is, or if that’s not my only problem. Has anyone else had something like this happen to them?

sounds like maybe u need to adjust the black knob under the hood

do you know what the black knob is, so i can look for it in my manual? Or maybe add a picture so i can adjust it?
