What steps are involved in dropping the motor from the bottom. I have access to an engine hoist and frame contact hoist. Since i’ve heard its easier to remove the engine from the bottom i thought i’d ask how
pulling enbine
I have done it both ways , and honestly you are better off doing it from the top .
On my car , I had to remove the right side lower control arm strut , the front crossmember had to be loosened (i have ABS abd did not want to have to disconnect all of that from the cross member ).
And then wiggling the engine in and out was a real pain .
It was much easier when I pulled it from the top .
i have done it from the bottom i just removed the front x member. also the car i did it on had no ps or ac in it

yea i think droppin it is alot easier just remover the xmember like said remove the axels and mounts and linkage and there it is…pullin it suck always gets stuck somwere
re:
Yeah, come to think of it the rear mount got me stuck & if ur pulling it from the top remove the header completely. Don’t just unbolt the header & let it hang.
Disconnect the header from the engine & from the exhaust piping.
any other tips before i do this?
having that chain that lets u tilt the engine is very very convenient. i use that every single time and i don’t have issues of it hanging up or whatever. just be careful and make sure all is disconnected and unhooked b4 u actually pull it out, or drop it down.
is it true i have to move abs lines in order to drop it? along with the radius rod and front crossmember?
if u go thru the top u won’t have to worry about that. the reason ppl say its easier to go thru the bottom is cuz they havent found the easy way to go thru the top.
you mean a load leveler? hmm maybe i’ll pick one up from harbor frieght. What do you attach the chain to by the top corner of the of the valve cover? i know theres that bracket by the transmission but this one confuses me.
i have a bracket that i bolt onto the rear of the motor, the side above the alternator. it bolts right in and sticks up like 6 inches. u could just get the chain and put the bolt with some washers thru it. make sure u got the bolt in there good. put it in fully, but don’t let there be more than an inch away from the side of the head.
but yes it is prolly called a load level. i use a cordless impact and a socket on mine and it angles it so much faster than doing it by hand. is helpful cuz i’ve done all my swaps by myself.
bracket?
yea i got a bracket from work. its a long thick metal plate. has holes on each end… one for the bolt to go thru and one for the chain.
