my trunk reached a point where i would have to slam it until it closed. slamming it over and over and over again. it got really aggravating. so i set out to find a solution.
i tried:
adjusting the striker that the latch goes into—FAIL
adjusting the latch----FAIL
pushing the little black thing forward a little bit so it grabs better—FAIL
but then i took the latch off the hatch to see if it was the striker that was messed up and the striker checked good. so i decided to move the latch down off the hatch a little bit. i put 2 washers in between the screws that hold it onto the hatch.
and now the hatch closes with almost no effort and it closes the first time, everytime. there isnt a gap either from doing this. it opens and closes the way it should.
i dont remember the size of the washers but if you take the screws out and go to home depot or something, you can size them with the bucket of single washers they have. theyre regular washers, not the lock ones…
Nice one man. Im going to try this cause on my DB2 i have to slam it to latch. Sometimes more than once to get it to hook up haha Ill get some pics to add to your write up tomorrow after the meet.
cool cool. thanks. i couldnt get a very good picture because of the plastic pieces on the hatch and i didnt have my tools with me to take it off the show…
Aloha DA_all_day, thx for the advise. I too tried to fix the latch and failed. Thot about the playing with the latch on the hatch but figured that part wouldn’t wear out. Tried the washer thing and CHA CHING! There was already the existing shim there so I got it to work with 1 washer on each screw. The hatch now closes easily with only 1 inch of slam space. Now I have to deal with the only rust spot on the car underneath the spoiler center post…which more than likely got than likely got that way from repeated slammings from one of the previous owners.
