I’m doing this with 2 ICUs that I currently have. Anyone need any help let me know.
I did some sleuthing online and found a guy from an NSX forum who does this repair work routinely. I have sent him my ICU. He thinks the board may have gotten burnt from the leaking capacitor and he has repaired the board itself before. He charges $40. I’ll let you guys know how it turns out.
Just for your added information, the car runs fine without the ICU. From what I can tell, my wipers work (but won’t return to lower windshield when off – must move it there manually); however, the headlight corner light bulbs do not work. I assume the rear defroster does not work as well (but mine hasn’t ever since the tint was yanked off from the rear glass).
Do you have a junkyard by you? You can snag one from a junk teg and try doing it again. What I did was, I repaired Two defective ICUs side by side. First one was the original. The other was the junkyard one. I screwed up on the first one. but the second one was a success. The ICU from the junk was 10 bucks.
I received the ICU a few weeks ago, but only have time to install it this past weekend. Every single thing that was wrong works now! I highly recommend this guy. I will post his information soon.
Awesome! I got lucky years ago by finding a working one in a junkyard and it just keeps getting passed from car to car lol
My wife’s ICU is now having problems. I just hers out to Brian. He’s still doing this service in case anyone is interested. The ICU that he repaired for me still functions great after one year.
Yes, I have my old one so I will have to hit him up to repair it! And the one I got from him 2 years ago is working like a charm
My old one burned out… went to junk yard got a new one… put some ARCTIC Silver thermal compound between ICU and the heat sink and still driving it for a year now!
I need to replace/repair the ICU in my 92. Does anyone still service these things? It looked like a few people were offering service.
Well i had no knowledge about the ICU, until my oil light started flashing at me. When I was 2 hours away from home. I had no choice but to drive the car, figured it wasn’t oil pressure seeing as how the engine stayed running the whole time. So searched oil light topics lead me here. Yeah my ICU is definitely in need of replacing or need major repair lol
Q1, 8,& 12 look bad or iffy. C8 & C9 definitely are cooked. ZD 1,2,3 maybe too
What’s the big thing in SP1?
I should of inspected and edited the pics i took of the board before hand
I went searching for replacement parts, and there’s a lot of terms I’m not familiar with when finding replacement parts.
Also am I correct in remembering there’s a certain type of solder you use for board work? And will a regular 6-10 pencil iron work or does this require a better one. It’s been couple decades since I messed around with board repair.
Thanks I’ll add pics if needed
As a certified Electronics tech… this is so easy… even monkey can fix it. Yea makes such big difference… wow… My windshield wipers are going nuts LOL
Thank you kind SIR!!!
Looks like I’m joining the party for this as well.
ICU in car, rear defroster GOOD, door open or head light BAD, intermittent wipers BAD
Junkyard $5 ICU, rear defroster BAD, door open or head light GOOD, intermittent wipers BAD
I order the capacitor off of ebay for like $2 and though about attempting it, but i don’t know that i actually want to mess with it being such a noob and keep testing to see what works and doesnt.
I sent Brian an email, I hope he stills repairs these because from what I saw the part is discontinued and must be fixed now.
I myself have been having an oil light problem for a while. I finally decided to get this thing fixed, but like the post above this, my issue is more with the “ZD3” zener diode, near the 33uF cap.
Does anyone else know anything about this circuit board or the “27 XD” zener diode? I need to replace that diode, but can’t find any specs for it.
I finally decided to let the pros handle this and sent this off for repair to http://nsxe-repair.com/.
I received my repaired ICU back in 1 week and it works great!

Thank you for confirming this company is still in business and legit…
I am thankful I found this post, and was hesitant because now my car is no longer 16, but 26…
Glad to hear these issues are ICU and not ECU too!
Just tried this fix, but the traces on the printed circuit board were corroded badly with that stuff that leaked out of the capacitor, many pins and traces were corroded away. I tried unsoldering the 7 pin connected close by to the capacitor so I can clean the traces and resolder them but one pin snapped off. I can’t find this part online since it just says “8914” on the side and sending this to get repaired to Brian at nsxe-repair seems like it won’t work since he probably needs all the components on the board. Is anyone selling the entire Integrated Control Unit around the Rhode Island/ New England area?
Update: I called every junkyard in 50 mile radius and none of them had 90-93 integra so I found a guy on craigstlist with a couple integras in edge of Rhode Island and I bought the pcb board and enclosure off of him for 20 bucks. Finally got it working, make sure when you check which one works to connect the circuit fully. Connect the red clip pins to the back of the ICU and then connect the ICU to the back of fuse box. If you dont connect it to the back of fuse box when testing, windshield wipers will work a little bit, but not every speed, but defroster won’t work. I made this silly mistake, so make sure you don’t. I ended up replacing the faulty capacitor on the new board and now everything should work for a long time
Thank you for this forum post - very happy acura 2nd generation owner
