to take it off, i just loosened the cams, but now im not sure how tight its supposed to be and im worried i might snap the belt if i press on the cam too hard to reposition it.
cant get the crankshaft pulley off which means i cant take off the lower cover which means i cant get to the tensioner either =/
You cant take the old belt off, or put a new one on without getting that bolt off.
You dont need to take the lower cover off to get to the tensioner either. There is a rubber cap that goes over the hole for the tensioner bolt on the lower cover. Just pull that off to get to the tensioner.
In the end you will need to get that pulley bolt off though because you cant do a timing belt without pulling the crank pulley…

doh i saw that rubber cap in the helms. i thought mine was supposed to go over that middle bolt but was missing.
i just wanna put the existing belt back on the cams. should work by just loosening the tensioner? crap just put all my tools away.
i managed to get the belt on w/o loosening the tensioner (i bought a new craftsman pro ratchet rated at 65lb-ft and it still couldnt budge it) i tightened down the caps, but before i went to go torque them, i wanted to see if the marks were still aligned. they were off so i tried to turn the crank forward but it wouldnt budge. neither would the cams. like the valves were touchign the pistons or something. guess i need to remove the cams again…
btw i made another post on the issue for more help

it’s not that great of an idea to use the old timing belt, especialy in your case. the belt might look good and then BAAMM your assed out cause you couldnt see the real flaws with your naked eye, even still… why risk it breaking after all this work your going thru to fix your head. i know money is tite but if it were me i would find a new one somewhere.
