today my car was making some noises but im not sure what it is. it has been making similar noises that come when the car is moving in neutral or in gear. I have checked everything by the brakes, and axles beacuse the noise gets louder and is a faste paste the fast the car is going.
my only guess now is the wheel bearing, HOW can i check if its the bearing without taking it apart?
From the front or back? Coming from one side only?
Bring it up to a speed where you here it clearly. Then do S turns back and forth. The shifting of the car’s weight will take pressure of the bearings, so if one of them is bad, the noise should go away or be dramatically less on the wheel that has no weight on it. If the noise goes away when doing this, then it is likely a bearing.
For the rear bearings:
If the noise goes away when you turn towards the left, then it is your rear left bearing.
If the noise goes away when you turn towards the right, then it is your rear right bearing.
For the front, I don’t know how well this technic works.
Has the noise progressively gotten louder over the past days/weeks?
Also put the rear seat down to help you hear what is going on in the back.
Rear bearings sound like a constant hum. As it gets worse, it sounds like a constant buzz. When it’s really bad, it sounds like there’s a guy tailing you on a 50cc moped at full throttle.
Recommend to do this in an empty mall parking lot.
alright thanks ill try that out.
the noise if coming from the front drivers side and it sound like there is either some rubbing on the brake rotor or on the wheel. at first i thought it was a belt but since the engine rpm doesnt have anything to do with it, i can rule that out. this morging instead of it just being the rubbing sound it was a squeeking sound, high pitch.
Check the metal dust sheild around the front disk, it could be rubbing on the disk. They can be bent easily. And I’m sure you checked that your brake calipers are not loose (though this would usually sound like a clunking when you hit bumps).
And is your plastic wheel well cover secured properly towards the front bottom? I had it rub the tire at higher speeds because the wind would catch it and fold it back. I could never figure out what the noise was because the flap would be back in place when I stopped to look. I only found out after the flap got caught in the wheel and tore off! Now my air box intake is exposed.
And your pads are ok? The metal spring clip for the pads is sitting properly?
its not the brakes or the plastic, the pads is a possiblity though, i just dont want to take it apart. and on my way home from school it didnt make that high pitch sound anymore
well that didnt work, my tires are too bad and my supension is too stiff
