how to tell if the tranny is bad or sensor is bad *auto*

ok my car wont move just seems like its in neutral no check engine lights plz help!

ma shit dnt take reverse i hae auto trannys

Check the axles. There was another member on here that had the same thing going on and it was the axle that slipped out.

mine goes in drives fine just reverse doesnt take sumtimes

probably the solenoid

does it go in any gears? reverse?

no gears i did get it to move in reverse 1 time it acted like the clutch was bad in a 5spd tho. and i think if axles was bad speedo would move?

well, the speedos driven by the diff. so, ultimately, the wheels move the speedo gear will
silly question, but have you checked the fluid?

yes checked fluid

have tried to see if the auto tranny computer is trowing any codes is the S3 light blinking.

i thought our cars auto trans control was integrated into the pcm, and didn’t run a separate transmission control module. i dunno though. only owned one auto and it was a long ass time ago.
i’ll check my alldata on monday and see if i can find any tsb’s or similar problems.
you can try isolating by separating the axels from the trans and try it in gear on the hoist. if you see the output on the trans spinning, the problem is probablt the axel(s)
lot of work, but so is swapping the tranny
but lemme take a look on monday for you

ok thanks

anyone else…b4 i just rip it out to do 5spd swap…could it be a sensor? or anything

man, dude. i’m sorry. been real busy. i’ll check it out tomorrow. promise

alright. no tsb’s with your symptom.
possible causes of your symptom-no drive in any range:
1.low fluid level
2.defective trans oil pump
3.stuck regulator valve or damaged spring
4.servo shaft sticking
5.damaged mainshaft
6.shift linkage out of adjustment
7.damaged final gear
8.torque converter not fully seated
9.oil pump gear improperly installed
10.countershaft one-way clutch improperly installed.

you can cross off 1, 8, 9, and 10, as this didn’t happen after a rebuild or re&i of tranny.
i would first check that it isn’t the drive axle. then check the adjustment of the linkage. if those check out, i’d replace the transmission

and there is actually a control module. however, i believe it should throw a code if it were having issues. check the codes. if there are none, try and get a hold of a test control module from somewhere. it’s located under the instrument panel. dr. side
