How to tighten throtle cable????

I remember hearing about this in the forums, but i perform a search and can’t find anything. So basically, how do you do this???, THANKS!!:shy:

if u open up ur hood… u’ll see a a cable connected to a semi round metal disk. This is ur throttle cable. What u do is unscrew the two nuts (two or one… )and basically adjust it so that the threaded metal tab is tensing up. and then u just retighten the nuts. Just extend the cable out further so that its more tense but doesn;t increase ur idle speed. hth’s… wish i could explain it better as well as provide pics.

So basically, you’d would tighten the throtle cable (stupid example) the same idea as you tighten a brake cable on a bicycle. Would i have to do this with the car on, so i can hear if I speed the idle up???

Not exactly. With the bike, you have tension which makes adjusting somewhat difficult. With the throttle cable however, it’s a lot easier. And yes, don’t go overboard coz’ when I did mine, I ended up idling at 4000rpm:p I never tried tightening the cable while the engine is on. I just tightened it within reason, and restarted the ECU.

Can’t remember which Fuse it is anymore, but it’s definitely a 10A fuse in the engine bay fuse box. Just unplug any 10A fuse you see (the red ones) for a minute, re-insert and start the car for 10 min. with EVERYTHING off and not touching the gas.

u can also undo the negative battery cable for a couple minutes and then re-attach it. and start the engine up and let it idle without touching the throttle. This allows the ecu to relearn. Then take the car out and drive it normally as u would.

Thank you all!!! Help was really appreciated!!!

To reset the ECU there is a fuse box on your passenger side under your hood. There should be a diagram in it, and the ECU fuse is a 7.5 amp fuse (not sure if there is more than one.) Take the fuse out for 10 seconds and put it back in. Then turn all your options in the car off (ex. heater, A/C, cruise control…) and let the car run until it is at normal operating temperature. Then shut the car off and let it cool down before driving again.
