Humming sound when accelerating

Hey guys so my 90 Integra while driving about 50mph I heard a pretty loud clank it was a couple of clanks and it sounded like it was something that I ran over and it got into the engine. But I didn’t see anything at all. I had it analyzed by some family friends and they think its something loose in the muffler system. When I accelerate at any speed it seems, it does a humming sound, kinda like what guys do to their mufflers. I don’t think it is the wheel bearings cause when I turn it doesn’t get louder. And it only happens when I accelerate, when I reach a stable speed it stops. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think you should still check your wheels for play…could still be the wheel bearing, when mine was bad it wouldn’t get louder with turns. Also check your axles…if they’re remans or cheap they sometimes hum or make weird vibrations under acceleration…

Your best bet is to take the car somewhere… It’s hard for us to diagnose a sound that we cannot hear. It’s possible the cat could be coming part internally or the exhaust may have developed a hole, which would make it a bit louder that initially could sound similar to something being run over.

At a complete stop does the car make the sound when revving the engine in neutral?
Also, does your car have a manual transmission? Try revving the engine with and then without the clutch engaged.

I took it to a shop, and some nuts and bolts fell off, and was making the exhaust system vibrate against something. Its all fixed up now though. Thanks for the help.
