humming sound

I have this humming sound coming from the engine everytime I cold start it. This humming sound goes away after the car has been warmed up.

I know its not the fan cause I know what that sounds like. The car doesn’t shake or rattle. And the sound is not loud. What can this be?

You guys ever have this mysterious noise?

I’m thinking it might be the steering pump. Next time you start it up cold, pop the hood and see if you can hear where it’s coming from.

yeah thats what I’ll do tommorrow morning.

i have this noise too!! wtf, it just happened to me this morning, i got so scared and turned my car off instantly, i cant seem to pinpoint where its coming from. ill make a video of it soon, because its driving me crazy

mine comes from the abs and i believe that’s what you guys hear too.

there’s a pump on the abs to put air into the accumulator. every morning when you start driving. the abs has a selfchecking device that checks the air pressure in the accu. that humming sound will stay for about 3-4 secs. and disappear, right. its just making sure that ur system is good.

i dont have abs

if its not the abs then it can be the engine itself. there is no oil on the valvetrain yet. as it gets hotter, the oil gets thicker and makes the noise. same as the power steering; the oil needs to warm up and lubricate the seals.

checked all fluids, everything is topped off to max, and also today it didnt make the sound, so i dunno whats going on  , im thinking its my heatshields because i recently bent one over so it wouldnt touch my shifter

It doesn’t make that sound all the time when its first started. It happens on and off.

91akira: for you, since you have a GS, it’s most likely your abs pump warming up or just running.

Matty…

Okay now its starting to annoy me. It happens to sound more often than last year. Majority of the people say its the Power steering pump or the ABS Pump? Which one is it? Is there a write up to replace it?

its the p/s pump . my p/s pump does the same thing every morning when its cold out side . soon as it warms up it goes away .
