Hey guys, I just got finished putting on h&r race springs with tokico illuminas from a 94+ Integra. My car is a 92 Integra. When I look in the wheel gap, I can see the h&r race springs with no space in between the coils. Its on the upper portion of the spring where the coils are closer together. The car rides fine but Im wondering if this will have any negative effects like wearing out the illuminas sooner?
I am not familiar with H&R springs, but you may have got the springs mixed up and put front springs in back, & the back springs in front. Yours should have different spring rates for the front & back due to the front(engine) being heavier.
The springs are not mixed I am sure of it. Besides all 4 springs got the upper portion coils touching. Is this normal?
Most likely they are designed like that. Besides spring rates, there really isn’t too much that can go wrong with them I wouldn’t think.
they are known as “dead coils” designed into the spring. They collapse with the weight of the car.
i have H&R on my 91 and my rear springs has the coils closer to eachother on top
The front are space out more. I dont know if this differs from a 94+
if they were close it prolly wouldnt bother me that much, but the fact that its touching has me a lil worried. Ill take some pics this weekend.
there are always some coils touching, it’s the design. you should be worried if the car bottoms out easy or it’s tooooooo low. then it would mean it’s sagging or weak. some coils touching is fine.
thats how progressive springs work, as they touch (bind) the spring rate becomes higher. now if you are bottoming out then you are too low like felix said.
if you have coilovers and this is happening your springs are too soft for the drop you have and you should raise it up or get stiffer spring rates.
its not coilovers, they’re h&R race springs from a 94+ Integra. The car rides fine, I was just concerned about the touching coils. Thanks guys.
I have 94+ neuspeed race in the front, and my springs have a few touching coils aswell. I think this is due to the crazy short front springs that DA’s come with. I haven’t had any problems, so as long as you don’t bottom out, you should be fine.
