i found a solid shell with a standard trans (no rust),my engine is in an auto da right now(b18a rebuilt ,all seals and timing belt water pump all done already) but I think i might replace the clutch, flywheel, mounts,cv axels,on the new shell.that’s all i got so far.I might rebuild the tranny(cuz i work for a tranny parts company) but what else is there to change before i drop the engine in? and if i rebuilt the transmission would it be worth it? thanks guys
depends on what you want to do with the car.
if its going to pull daily driving duties and not racing or extended track-day abuse id say a new clutch and flywheel will be plenty of work for the transmission.
if youre going to be building up the motor with a turbo, nitrous or supercharger, or are going to be road racing/drag racing your car, i would at least add a nice LSD. also, you can fiddle with final and fifth gear ratios, but would not be worth it if youre not racing or building the car up.
if you want a daily driver thats fun to drive and will only receive bolt-ons and some spirited driving, leave the most of the tranny alone. kinda like; if it aint broke, dont fuck with it.
whats the status of the new car? no/blown motor? if thats the case, just swap longblocks, youll need a manual ECU if the new car doesnt have one.
esentially youll already have everything you need, just swap over the parts that look different than the automatics and drop it in.
sorry it took me so long to reply
um well i pulled the spark plug boot(cuz it smelled heavily of gas in the engine bay) and number 4 cylinder was full of gas??? like there was gas covering the spark plug(in the 5 spd). never seen that before…anyways, i was planning on swapping in the engine from my auto, so no biggie.but i would like to build up the engine( from the auto) later on after it is installed(in the 5 spd), as a weekend warior. So I’m looking for around 200 whp using N02. so can someone suggest some good things to install , modify or tweak while the engine is out?
search the forums, plenty of builds and owners opinions of parts
