I/H/e, my tegra suks....whats up ?

hey wasup, i have I/H/E ill post some pics later, have been quiet about some mods…have shogun 17’s
matrix cold air k&n filter
dc sports 4/2/1
focuz muffler/ 2 1/4 catback piping.
breather…ahahah

i dunno my friend has 93 gs, good clutch, he almost gets me all the time…and he is bone stock?

-is it my 17’s weighing me down, they weigh 24lbs, +tires a peice.

-is it becase my car ahas 165,000, his has 100,000

-is it because my intake bends to much, damn cold air

-is it because its not 3" piping intake?

-would i get a push with thick ass wires and some plugs/cap/rotor?

-man, i wanted to finish my car w/ suspension work, but i got feel it rip, time for some head work i guess!!!

What year in your teg? The 90-91 had 10 fewer hp than the 92-93. If yours is a 90 or 91 your h/i/e will probably make up for the difference but like you said the 17’s are pretty heavy so that’s probably the main reason you’re not much faster.

ooops

yeah its a 1992 integra gs, 5spd, freinds has a 1993 gs 5spd

help…

you’re expecting WAY too much out of your i/h/e. YOu shouldn’t expect them to yeild very much power at all. YOu have to think of i/h/e as prepping your car for real mods like cams, higher compression, headwork…

without more serious mods i/h/e is almost a waste, especially considering their price.

also you have to take into account the driver. try switching cars and see what happens

The 17" are probably a factor b/c they are heavy. However I think your bigger problem is backpressure. You’ve made too much breathing room for a motor that has stock cam settings. Your exhaust is too big; your leaking pressure and your compression is lower in your engine. Your friend (93 GS) is staying with you b/c he has the proper cam setting for the limited about of intake and exhaust pressure into his motor.

When I first installed my b16a my Integra was really quick. I installed ceramic headers and I could feel that the lower torque wasn’t all there anymore. Then I installed 2.5" cat back system with high flow muffler and there wasn’t any low end (at all).

I got a set of AEM cam gears. This brought my motor back to life. I’m running AEM cold air intake w/ K&N filter, so I advanced the timing on the intake cam +2 (4 degrees). Then I retarded the timing on the exhaust cam -1.5 (3 degrees). I now have a lot more low end torque and then when the VTEC picks up at 4800 rpm the car takes off. The idle is a little rough, however the increased power makes up for it.

If you tuned your motor with a set of cam gears you would be able to take your friend in his 93 gs, no problem.

coool…

yeh, i honestly dont expect much from them, my clutch is more worn than his, clutch if im not mistaking would deliver me more power in high rpms, unlike my whackass clutch that like rummbles it off n crap!! yeah, im thinking b16a, u think i can find one somewhere to have shipped for liike 1100?$$ newhere?

I did the exact same set up and my car was also really slow, i would always loose to my friend who had a stock 92rs(he pulled 15.78 at the track) My car seemed to hesitate at about 4500rpm and it didn’t want to really pull anymore…i have a 93rs, thought it was because i was a bad driver until i bought a test pipe…well when i put that on i beat his ass by three car lengths(i kept pulling all the way towards redline!)i looked at my old cat and it was completly clogged, i mean pitch black melted inside, basically it was blocking my whole exhaust from operating normally…anyways eventually i opted for a high flow cat because of the cops around my area, not as good as the test pipe but better than a clogged cat, well hope that helps

r u sure ur friend doesnt have a bonestock itr or etc swap? =P

red_b16a i think that deserves a ARCHIVE THIS THREAD =D

gee should i put the stock intake back in since i dont have anything else and wish for more low end?

bad timing, wore out rings, leaky valve seals, old dirty oil :p. Get a leakdown and compression test. And Im sure those 17" wheels dont help.

Why should this be archived?

as mentioned earlier, don’t expect a whole lot with the mods you have. you said your friend has a good clutch… is yours bad? i’d get some good z rated tires and a good clutch like centerforce. break in the clutch properly and it should serve you well.

cool…

hey i have a92 gs, how much would a center force clutch cost me? and what staged o i need? hmm af for the seals…how much could all that run me?

archive this cuz ppl buy i/e and maybe h and thats it. not worth it imo unless you just want sound

A couple of things I’d like to touch on…

1.) Remember, a good cat is part of the exhaust system. If your header and exhaust flow well, but your cat sucks, it isn’t doing you much good. I’d get a new cat and then see what happens.

2.) Also, i/h/e by no means do nothing. On our cars, they should yield between 10-15 whp and about the same amount of torque, which is not too shabby. I can say without a doubt that my car is a good deal quicker now than it was stock. I think people overestimate the gains of i/h/e too much, so now people underestimate them too much.

hey

i dont really over estimate at all, it was a good subject to put on, i just let u guys know i have thoes mods, meaning im not stock, compared to all stock. i plann to do internal head work etc. yet the whole catalytic converter, mines probobly fried!!, how about a clutch how much?
