So you are positive its coming from the engine bay? left or right side, maybe its your main bearing in your tranny. I had the same problem until it went and now im gettin all my beearing replaced, if you just rebuilt ur motor then the problem isnt there. check your axles ( passenger side input shaft) If there is and slop, then there’s your problem (main bearing).
thanx for thee reeply; I’m still kinda neew to axles…can you teell mee how to check for the slop?
it could also be the timing belt tensioner when that bearing starts to go it makes a wicked hum and then after that who knows. this was the problem wih my wifes accord until i changed the tensioner, hope that helped alittle

yes, the noisee goes away. [/B]
EDIT: Humm, I meant for that /\ to also include the quote of the question someone asked you.
Does it go away anytime the clutch is engagued? Even when you rev it up to the rpm where it normally makes noise? Does it do it in every gear? Does make noise when the clutch is engagued and the engine is at the rpm where it makes noise but you have it out of gear?
This should help you troubleshoot it down to 1 system that is making the noise.

clutch engaged: yes, noise goes away.
when in neutral the noise does not exist
Yes, every gear
I will try the tensioner and water pump since I have an extra of both.

You have to remove the tranny to replace the main bearing or no?
So if the noise goes away when it is out of gear, that means it is probably not your water pump or the tensioner. Probably something to do with your transmission.

actually my wifes accord didnt make noise at idle or with the clutch in but as soon as i changed the tensioner the noise went away (btw i went to u.t.i. and my taecher at the time who is a certified HONDA MASTER TECH found the problem for me)
hmmm, didn’t think being under load would make a difference, but I’ve been wrong before, always hard to trouble shoot from 1000mi away…
This might be a long shot but I have had cars in the past that had this problem and it was caused by a piece of the power train touching the frame somewhere and causing the car frame to resonate at a certain frequency. Do you have anything from the engine, transmission, exhaust system that is touching the frame directly without a vibration isolater?
just drive it untill it breaks then you will know. You may not drive around at 5.5k very often
