I have a slight (or major?) problem

when i’m on part (1/3) throttle and anywhere above 3700 rpm, I get this harmonic vibration (the best way I can think of describing it). ie, you know how when you wet your finger and rub it around the lip of a glass? The slight vibrating feeling your finger gets…I’m getting that from my car, which I feel through my feet as well as the rest of the car.

1.) two bolts on my flywheel (the ones holding the PP onto the flywheel) are shorter than the rest. One went missing, and my freind found two off his CRX so we decided to put them opposite each other to try and compensate for any imbalance.

2.) oil was overfilled a little bit, but seems to be pushed out through the oil pan gasket which I need to retorque. (I figure I’ll let the oil level reach normal first)

3.) FP = 36psi with hose connected, 44 w/o

4.) 50 thou off the head, 10 thou off the block, B16 pistons.

5.) does NOT seem to be a problem at WOT…

any ideas???

PLS HELP!!

damn if that slight vibration bothers you then you would hate to ride in my car
i feel every crack in the road and every time i gas it i feel things vibrating
did u get new tires?
im sure its just something that has no effect on the performance of your car
but i understand when even the smallest thing will drive you insane when it comes to your car

I’ve heard a similar sound on a 3.0CL once and it turned out to be a defective waterpump. It kept humming at a certain rpm and then would go away and then come back and then go away and then come back…well, you get the idea. Good luck fixing your prob though…Sorry, I wasn’t much help…

If ur missing a couple bolts from ur PP, maybe it shifted and its not centered on ur flywheel/disc now…Im PRETTY sure all the bolts should be the same length…Maybe u put the wrong bolts in???

How overfilled was ur oil???If it was by a lot u had better drain some of it…Too much oil creates to much pressure and can ruin seals etc etc…

Hope I helped Max…

Good luck to you…

were you able to FEEL it?

It kinda seeems like a wheel bearing…
hm…

could it possibly have something to do with your exhaust Max?
at about 3500-4000 (depending on how much of a load the engine’s under) I get a nasty vibration thru my whole car from my exhaust and it goes away once I get up to a higher rpm…or if I’m at a lower rpm. I can hear it and feel it. It gets really bad when I’m next to another car with a loud/aftermarket exhaust.

Just an idea.

I’ve thought about that too…but the higher the rpm the more consistent it gets…

I’ve had both rear wheel bearings go bad… but I don’t think this is your problem. Try pushing the clutch in at 3500-4000rpm’s and letting it idle while your still rolling and see if the noise goes away. That should narrow it down a little.

yes, the noisee goes away.

Still a problem after fixing flywheel bolts…but now after 5500rpm

Did you replace the bolts with integra bolts this time, or did you just move them around so they were opposite each other? It still sounds like your flywheel isn’t balanced for whatever reason. Is it possible it was warped when the bolts were torqued?

Is it like a winding noise? I have a noise that i get from my tranny (because it only happens wit clutch out) as far as i understand it mite be a bearing in the tranny. Mine is from low rpms too like 5k thne it sorta goes away.

Today I went and replaced my oil pan gasket, as well as the front crank seal…and I noticed a SMALL (about the size of this period ‘.’ ) hole in on the flywheel…:frowning:
uncool…

But the vibrations seem to be coming from the crank pulley side of the engine…

thanx, but that doesn’t seem to be my problem…

Were these done before or after the problem? And, let me get this straight, you were getting the problem past 3700rpm, and now it’s past 5500rpm?

These were done before the problem. Motor was rebuilt, and was running fine. After a while, it started…I’ll use the word “humming”, at first after 4000rpm. I thought it was the flywheel bolts, so I just changed those back to integra bolts…and now strangely it has gone away until after 5500rpm…
