I have replaced my front rotors and pads but car still shakes..help!!

I have replaced the front rotors and pads but my steering wheel still shakes whenever I press the brake lightly at high speed. What could be the problem? Tomorrow, I am going to re do everything again. Could it be problem if I didn’t torque it to the specified torque? Or what else could be wrong? I am really aggrevated with the shakes and stuff. Please enlighten me fast! Thanks…

Oh ya, and the left front brakes has lots of fresh gunk, all over it and whenever I brake the pedal sink in, but only after I drive for quite a while. If I take a short drive, it is OK, it doesn’t sink. What could be wrong? And the front right doesn’t have any fresh gunk at all. Thanks ya’ll.

It chould be you cv axle, or so i’ve heard.

Sounds like a few things…

  1. You might have a bad axle, check CV boot, if you have “fresh gunk” that could be the grease leaking the boot.

  2. Your master cylinder has gone bad. My car had the same “sinking” problem you described. The o-ring where the MC bolts up to the firewall was bad and I decided to replace the entire assembly. Replaced that and bled the brakes, the car has good pedal feel and no more fade during driving.

  3. Always make sure you torque everything down according to the service manual.

  4. If you’ve torqued everything down, the last thing you could check is your tires. When was the last time you had the wheels balanced?

  5. Alignment - You should check the alignment as well…if the car is lowered and hasn’t had the alignment done afterwards, that could throw things off. Any unusual wear on the tires?

maybe you have a bad hub… I have this problem, replaced rotor+caliper+pads and didn’t help. one of my hub is rusted and not straight anymore, that is causing my bad vibration when I brake

vibration…

when you got your new rotors did u get them turned?yes ,brand new rotors should be turned.i found out the hard way also.brand new brembo blanks aem pads and had a bad vibration when i barely applied brakes.had rotors turned and now it’s fine.take rotors off and have your mechanic turn them for u .it cost me 20 bucks to have both the fronts turned.

best of luck

yes, it looks like one of my cv boot is busted, is there any harm for having them busted? Should I do something about it, or could I just leave it? And I didn’t know new rotors need to be turned. I have warranty on the rotors, should I take them back and get new ones or should I just turn them? thanks!

not true, i’ve done many a pads and rotors. I’ve never turned new rotors, and still never a problem. maybe you didn’t follow proper breakin procedures? or maybe the rotors/pads were somehow defective.

but to the main topic, it sounds like it’s your master cylinder and bad axles boots. the extent of the damage is deteremined by how long you have driven with broken boots.

dont forget your tie rods or bearings as a culprit

rotors will also get warped if you over-torque your lug nuts. 80lb-ft i believe(someone back me up on that?), and make sure you go top to bottom to left to right instead of tightening them in order of top, right, bottom, left or whatever.

That might not be what caused the vibration, but it’s good to know anyways!

How much would it cost me to fix my cv boot that is torn?

Yeah i waana know as well my right CV boot is torn and ther eis alot of shaking

Any one has tips how to fix torn cv boot? Is there any patch to fix this, my car doesn’t have the clicking noise yet, glad I found it our early. I really don’t have the money to fix it right now, but I don’t want to drive it to damage it more. Please help? I have heard someone patch it before but couldn’t find it. Just oil and patch the torn boot. Could someone enlighten me why this would cause shaking? Thanks Ya’ll

cv boots

if the cv boots are torn, you’re gonna need new axels. dont bother with patches, expect to pay around 60-90 bucks per axel plus labor to put it on. i would get em fixed, cuz youre gonna mess up your front end pretty badly.

My cv joints are new. They are 4 months old. But if there are no other way I will change it when I have the money. Anyone have more suggestions? Thanks ya’ll

Tighten every nut/bolt down there with a torque wrench.

I got me boot splitter. It looks like it will work. I come with clamps and grease and another boot. I’ll try that tomorrow and let ya’ll know.
