OK I KNOW THAT IF I DO A LSVTECH SWAP ILL HAVE LIKE TWO HUNDRED BHP BUT IF VTECH WORKS BUY OPENING THE VAVLE FURTHER AT HIGH RPM WOULD IT JUST BE THE SAME AS BAD ASS CAM SHAFT OR DOES THE HEAD HAVE BETTER FLOW O SOMTHIN IM KINDA NEW AT ALL THIS SINCE IVE ONLYY HAD THE CAR 4 MONTHS AND IM GETTIN USED TO THE THING. I ALREADY HAVE CIA AND CAT BACK EXHAUST THE NEXT LOGICAL STEPP IS A HEADER BUT IM PLANNI FOR THE FUTURE IS WHAT ELSE CAN I BUY WITH 800 DOLLARS THAT I WILL NOTICE ALOT
First of all VTEC, VTECH is a phone, If you want have $800 dollars to waste just save up a little more and do a motor swap. Buy a JDM B16a and take out your old motor. You won’t have as much torque as your old motor (B18) but the B16a will make up the torque because it has more horsepower than the B18. I hope this helps a little but I’m sure that other guys around here can help you out better.
we don’t like “CAPS LOCK” around here…
but otherwise welcome to the club.
and a vtec head is totally different from a LS head.
There’s more to it than just cams. The vtec head is what gives the hp. The power potential of any motor starts with the head. when people get proper headwork done it’s for one reason, efficiency. The efficiency is also based on what other mods you might have. It is all about the balalnce of air velocity and air volume. What’s great about the vtec head is that straight from the factory it’s pretty damn good.
For a non-vtec cam to achieve the same cam specs as a vtec cam you would not be able to idle correctly and at that point your non-vtec head would be a flow bottleneck.![]()
recently i heard of the freinkinstien (sp)swap wich is my block with a b16 head how good is this is it cheaper considering my motor has 134,000 miles i dont really wanna put the b16 in there b/c i like the torqe. i think my vavle guides are bad it smokes alot when i take it to high rpm ive heard that hondas smoke so i dont really know
hmmmmm!
i not really agree with the b16a engine swap, the b16 have more horse power but less of torque it qill be very good on a civic but very weaker and a integra chassis, a b18b can take a b16a engine because he have more torque so continue to save money and buy a gsr u will be very fustrated to have a b16a engine on your teg., the best thing to do if u don,t want to do the ls/vtec is to change your camshaft for a aftermarket one, to the all head porting and to change your all exaust for a bigger one, then u will se a big difference.
Do a CR-VTEC, get a b20 block for $800 + s & h (may be able to get a better deal, but that’s from hondamotorsonline.com). Then put a b16 head on there, run ya about $450 or so. Swap the heads after you build the b20 up and you got one hell of a machine for just over 2 grand. Or just get a b20, build it up and you’ll smoke the b16’s all day with the huge advantage in torque and similar if not more hp.
Go to importreview.com and check out the dynos on the 2.0L engines, then the b20/b16 ones. Very little did these guys modify and they’re hittin 200 whp! Friggin nuts, the b20/b16’s haul ass if it’s built. Hell, a built b20 still hauls ass
