I need some help....alternator problem....

I have a dead alternator on my b18a. My problem is that I am getting a b16a in two weeks…so I’m not sure what to do. If I bought an alternator for my b18a, will it fit on my future b16a? I just got home today, just now,and everything electrical in my car was dying as I got into the driveway. The battery was exchanged yesterday…and the charge is already faded.

If I were to wait off until the b16a transplant then I would have to wait two weeks…not to mention driving about 65 miles to get to the shop. (SanFrancisco to Sacramento) The way my car was acting today…i don’t think it’ll make it that far. And towing it there is out of the question. (Too expensive=not worth it)

My options that I’m considering…
1)Charge up my battery, then drive it up to Sac…(according to my friend , it will make it.)
2)Get a new alternator, that is, if the b18 and b16 share the same alternator.

I don’t know if they’re interchangable, but I do know that you probably won’t make it on that battery, especially if you go at night. Also, if at some point you turn the car off on the way there you more than likely won’t have enough juice to get the car started again.

Okay, I have a simple question…
In the teg tips under “engine swaps” it says that all parts from the b18a and b16a are interchangeable, except for a few items (which were listed). So this would mean that the alternator is interchangeable between the two engines.

I just need a definate “yes” to ease up my mind guys…it is interchangeable, right? I’m tight on money so I can’t be wrong when buying this alternator.

just phone up acura and see if the LS and B17 alternator are the same number…

I just called up acura’s parts department–the b18a and the b17a use different alternators…so I’m guessing that the b16a does use a different alternator also. This sucks cause now that means that I will just charge up the battery and drive to the shop 65miles away with a dead alternator…praying that I’ll make it. :tsk:

ha you can maybe charge up a few batteries and if one dies, you can change it and keep going, just a thought.

Just because it has different alternators does not mean they are not interchangeable. The probably have a different pulley size or amperage but the casing is going to be the same. Ask the delear if the mounts are the same. That will tell you if they are interchangable or not.
