i think i may have stripped the splines off my axle

i think i may have stripped the splines off my axle. a couple nights ago i pulled into a parking spot and was there for about 5 minutes. then i decided to go get sumthing to eat. well when i tried to move my car it wouldnt budge. it made a horrible grinding noise. i think that it was the axle because when i let up off the clutch was when it started to make the noise. and the axles spins but no movement.

the moter is a B18a1 block B18b1 head. i dont kno what tranny is in it because it doesnt have the sticker on it. please someone help me out. i need to get my car moving so i can get to and from school and work.

if it is the LS tranny how many splines should there be. and does the db2 have lsd??? i have no clue what tranny is in the car

PLEASE HELP!!!

THANX IN ADVANCE…DARNELL

yup it is your CV joint… the one in the knuckle… It is spinning inside the boot.
just go buy a new axle, unless you think you can take it apart and replace the broken parts yourself.
I have done about 7 now, usually cost around $70 for me…

with the wheel on and on the ground take off the hub cap and break the axle nut loose with a breaker bar and the correct socket ( 32mm i think) or an impact gun.
Then jack up the car and remove the wheel.
next pull out the pin in the lower ball joint castle nut and remove the castle nut.
next break the ball joint loose from the lower control arm,
pull the axle out of the knuckle from the back.
then with a screw driver pry the axle out of the intermediate shaft or tranny.
feed it through the fork and your done!

when replacing use grease on the splines, and make sure to support the ends of the axle when carrying it.

oh btw this is in the wrong forum…

k thanks. which forum should it be in???

so nothing is wrong with the splines just the internals of the cv joint???
inner or outer??

and did it cost you $70 to get a new axle or to rebuild the cv??

suspension, brakes and wheels i think… I am sure if you looked around that forum you would find more info.

70 dollars for a new axle, outer. I would just recomend replacing the axle with a new/rebuilt one (like local auto parts sell)
