idea: spray painting back speaker grills/

my back speaker grills are fading badly, i was thinking about to spray paint it black to match the privacy cover…
you guys think that would look good?
imma try it soon

I did that 3 years ago, I have a white sedan with Palmy Blue interior, and that time the rear grills were almost extremely light blue with a bit of yellowish color.

I used a dark blue spray paint, and since then the color is as new. The only drawback is the rough surface feel that you’ll end up with, but since no one touches them it is not a problem. May be U can use textile paint, but the txtile on the grills is some kind of synthetic material and therefore I doubt if you can get good bonding, or any bonding at all.
Good luck

just rewrap the grilles in some kind of fabric from any fabric store. they will look brand new without paint.

take off the mesh and paint the metal, i did it and it looks great, if you paint over the mesh you with loose sound from the speakers.
The grills just pop out and the mesh is held down by the meal clasp bent inward, bend them out and take the mesh off.

this is what I did…and I regret it. First off, its a pain in the ass. Getting the material to stay in place can be really difficult. But the worst part is that the material faded super quick. I used speaker grill cloth which was supposed to be very transparent (to sound) and be resistant to the sun. Well, a year in my car (no tint) and they were severely faded, much worse than the stock pieces.

I would suggest the following (you pick what best suits you)

  1. Stick w/ the stock material, its really not the bad (compared to the faded ones I have!)

  2. Remove the stock material and just keep the metal grill. Shouldn’t even need to be painted (its already black). It looks pretty good like this. It just depends on if you want it to look like a metal grill, or if you want the grill cloth look.

  3. If you definitely have to paint it…do yourself a favor and get Duplicolor vinyl and interior paint. This paint is made for painting stuff like seats (even cloth ones), dashes, door panels…etc… Personally I’ve never thought painting an interior is a good idea. And I’m still a bit weary about it. But recently I used some of this paint on our rally car, and I was thoroughly blown away. It put a VERY nice finish on the dash (not too shiny, coated well, and doesn’t at all look like it was painted). I even tried some on the seats, and it worked pretty good there too. Definitley MUCH better than using any normal type of spray paint.

i just riped the stock material out i got 2 types of frabic but its too hard to get them to stay so i just stayed with the stock grill with no material

i am kinda scared that the sun will damage my speakers;9

I used Black tights cut up to cover mine!
