idea to ward off thieves.

Alright so I was on honda-tech and saw a video of a db8 stolen in broad daylight
http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2779115

given how easy it is to steal a honda. Would it be possible with size and fitment to actually change the locking mechanism as in take one from vw,ford, etc…
or does honda have a elaborate way of the way the locking system is setup?

I am not sure if anyone has tried this before I am just curious if it is possible.

I realize that other cars get stolen not just honda’s but at least maybe having a lock that can’t be open in 10 seconds with a shaved key.

and yes having security steps to help prevent theft kill switch, clutch lock.
It’s almost as if getting a boot to put on the car isn’t a crazy thing to do these days

I was thinking of making a bracket that wraps around the steering wheel column and will have a cut key welded to it so it will go inside the ignition. Then you simply lock it in to place. Not only it will hold the steering wheel in place but they can’t start it.

If they want the car they will take it. Insurance is the only way.

Just keep track of what you spend and talk to your insurance agent.

That is true but why no make it harder fore them to take it?

the harder it is to achieve a feat, the harder a determined person will work.

id rather my car get stolen and insurance pay me out and get a new one rather than fix whatever issues an attempted/successful car theft will create.

how much better would you feel if you just pay your deductible for a whole new car rather than wait for weeks/months to get it repaired, only to have a theft recovery with a possible salvage title? besides, i only trust one person to cosmetic repairs and he doesnt do insurance work.

no thanks.

you’re better off redirecting the efforts for swapping ignitions with another type of car to a good alarm system. the more thorough the better. backup battery, backup battery siren, tilt sensor, your own kill switches and stuff. i don’t understand why people are still driving their cars without alarms, regardless of what brand of car it is…

ive seen a few kids on campus with these. it looks pretty cool to walk up and unlock your own wheel boot. people are like “whoa you got a secret key or something?”
when you tell them that you drive the previous model year to the most stolen car in america, they seem to understand a little more clearly

the boot idea is actually pretty good, as some people report their car being stolen via towing.

It is a good idea but what if you park in the city and have a tow truck tow it because he thinks it a tagged car?

They run the plate before they tow it.

also ideally you would want to have 2 boots right? The second on the opposite diagonal corner. then they wouldnt be able to tow from the front or the rear

I i was thinking about hooking up a kill switch to the fuel pump.

or bypass the signal wire to the starter to a hidden push button

but mine is lock up in the garage

Thieves often browse forums for ideas just like this. I know, how else should you get the info you’re looking for? I’m just saying.

in theory. If they’re stealing cars with a flatbed (and gutting them for parts) they can hook the car to the winch and drag it onto the bed wheels turning or not (in about 30 seconds, the car just needs to make it onto the bed enough to drive away. It can be tied down more securely a few blocks away). Sure it would ruin the winch overtime, but just steal another tow truck or pick up a “disposable” unit at harbor freight.

The proper insurance products and services are your best weapons in the war on autotheft. Or just drive a $600 car like me.

THIS! I love how people sometimes go into detail about the type of security measures they use and where and how the hide/install them. Why no just hand the thief your keys?

Exactly. Bottom line, if they want it bad enough they will get it in the end. But if you have a great idea, talk to your local crew about it, and let it spread by word of mouth if you get it to work. Posting things like this up here only aid thieves in getting ideas.

I had to do this on my CRX. I dropped my daughter off at daycare and came home to find my hood popped open. Some one unlocked the door popped the hood and re-locked the door but didn’t latch the hood. I keep my Integra in the garage.
