Idle problems fixed on Crower 403's

Well, with some anger and tinkering on my part, I finally got my idle to act normal. First I turned it up, but then it bounced between 1 and 1.5k rpm. But that was only after I started it cold. So then I turned it down, same thing. Try and reset the ECU, it dies, start it again, then I gotta press the gas. Confusing? I know…

So I also took off my power steering partly so my car wouldn’t die around curves. This helped too.

Now it sits right around 800 and only dies right after I start it up after it has already been warmed up. But just hold the revs for a sec and it’s fine.

How do you like them? much gaines? what else do you have done to your car (engine wise)

I like the cams a lot, they did add some very good power.

I have:
AEM CAI
DC 4-2-1 header
Custom exhaust
Carsound cat
no PS belt
AEM cam gears

check the “all go” link in my sig.

holy **** you ran a 15.1!! Those cams made that much of a difference? Did you 1/4 before you had the cams installed and what were your times then? Thanks and congrads!!

Jeff

i will be putting in some 403’s in my car soon… it’s a automatic and i’ll be running it with stock springs and retainers witha chip ecu with stock rev limit . pretty much have already gotten all teh initial things… I/H/E fuel/ignition etc etc. Hopefully i’ll get a goo d amount of power without killing my driveability. i’ll prob get it dyno and tuned, i’ll def post pictures of it when i get it… i’m hoping it’ll be around 140+ and 130+ torque

i wanna throw in 404s in my auto too, but i think you should also upgrade the valvetrain. you might be able to get away with it, but you wouldnt wanna risk it. BTW have you ever ran you car at the track? if so what did you run?

good god 404’s on autos lol i think the car will def stall out all the time. i sent crower e-mails and they say 402 max for autos so i’m already pushing it… i def don’t think 404 will be good unless you have some sort of programmable computer. yah i thoguht about getting the springs and retainers but i just don’ thave the money right now and from what i have heard running stock rev limit is ok so… wish me luck =P i might have to adjust the valves every 2 months or so but that is def a good skill to learn so i’m goign to learn that form the guy that’ll help me put them in.

o yes, track time no… but i ran it vs other autos’ and autos usually have more consistent time than manuals so it shoudl be pretty close… i ran against a 2002 TL and wass like 4 cars behind when we hit around 90. which is a good amount prob .5 - .8 seconds… TL runs about 15.5- 15.8 so i’m looking at around low 16’s. hopefully with 403 and AEM fuel pr i’ll even it out with the v-tec torque monster. that thing got 236 hp and like 219 torque or something not bad for a honda/acura car but it’s just too god damn heavy around 3600 pounds i believe. if i have that kind of power in my car i’ll prob be doing low to mid 14’s and that’ll be great… i’m guessing changing to manual will give about .5 seconds faster in 1/4 so that means when i swap my car to manual i’ll be low 15’s and high 14’s if that is the case i’ll be happy with it. so far i got

ICE man Intake, RSR cat-back, DC header, MSD SCI, Jet auto ECU, AEM acces pulleys, RC cleaned balanced injectors, 99 Engine head ( lose the effect since i’m changing the cams, it will however be for sale to the 90-91 g2’s here soon for cheap.

some dude is gonna hook me up witha auto bored out manifold… not sure if that’ll help without having a matched TB… i was thinking about boring out my currenb TB without changing the plate… so it’ll have bigger oopening and exits… kinda like a funnel effect, dual funnel actaully. funnel when it comes in and by the intake manifold the air coming in will be like sucking from a straw with a bigger opening so i’m guessing it’ll increase velocity.

I ran a 16.02 before the cams. But since that I’ve added the cams/gears/took off the PS belt/reduced weight more. I also lowered my tire pressure this time and drove better. Plus, the track was at a lower elevation.

i think with the right tuning, meaning alot of time on the dyno, i can get them running not so bad. i kno ill still have a lumpy idle, but too see the looks of the face on the 5spd ownders gettn beat by an auto will be priceless.

lol that’s what i’m doing around here =P lol

don’t underestimate the auto’s despite the fact they suck hehe.

haha finally i met another g2 integ who loves and races their automatic. but i do love the way autos are alwaze consistant [only if they didnt rob us so much damn power]. so whats your launching technique? brake torque?

yah pretty much. i get around 3k and them let it all out. sometime si can get my tires to spin which is kinda cool and i got really good tires and they are really new so i’m really surprised. last tie it rain here and i just step on it from red light that bitch went to second gear and was stil spiinning people behind me was wondering wtf was going on. lol i was just not moving but spinning there lol kinda fun and intresting to see auto capable of doing that. i know pretty much all manuals can do that easily but they do’n tknow the love for autos.

i was thinkign about getting a toruqe converter. i heard there around 300 and suppose to allow autos to shift without losing much power… they state that it can out accel a stick, but who knows… i might try it out in the future just cause since no one use that kind of stuff.

a new torque converter would be a nice upgrade, maybe rev near 4 and jus go and go. but i bet installtion will be killer for the TC.

yah true dat, but how much does it improve?? i was readong the concept of how it works but i was never able to talk to anyone with one and see what diff does it make. does it just increase torque pull?

i remember someone was talking about a TC before, that it gives you a higher stall speed but there was a downside about it, something about daily driving, but i cant remember exactly. im going to try and talk to someone mucle car heads because the principal is all the same when you upgrade your TC.

so what was the word on crower 404 w/ an auto. i may get a pair for $250 shipped.
where can i chip my ecu?
how do u torque brake? i once tried holding the brake then press the gas, but i didnt like the way it sounded and never done it again
