I am down the road gonna hopefully do a engine swap. and if i go with a b18c1, will that manual tranny work for our cars? I have an auto and want to convert it to a 5spd. and wanna make sure the engine i swap, the tranny will work fine for my 90 LS.
All B-series transmissions bolt up to B-Series motors. But I’m not quite sure on the automatic issue. Never dealt with them before. But I’m sure you could make it work just fine…since the way the engine bolts up and attaches to the tranny is the same. I doubt it would perform very good though. Just be ready for that. And you would definitely need to run the Skunk2 intake manifold. Oops…just realized I misread your question. Please read the swap guide on the teg tips page. It will answer your questions.
don’t forget that the b18c1 is a hydro tranny. For that to work you’d need a conversion kit to allow you to run hydro opposed to cable.
I say sell the b18c1 tranny (usually sell for $500-$800), and buy a vtec y1/j1/s1 or gsr ys1. Overall it will perform just as well and you’ll save yourself a bundle of $$$.
yo dan, i’ve read and printed out your engine swap guide. It doesnt specifically say anything i dont think? I might skipped it. but what about how he says that the tranny is diff. think i’d be better off selling it and getting a diff tranny???
Yeah…sell the G3 GSR tranny and pick up a G2 GSR YS1 or JDM YS1. I was pretty thorough with the swap guide. I talk about transmission options in there.
ok, cool. thanks to the guy I work with, his bro that has the junkyard said he is going to hook me up for the next engine for $800. They sold the b17a they had. So I am hoping for probably a b18c since it seems the best bet next to the type r. Hopefully can get one of those and start a swapping. Do you think It would in any way be possible for somebody like myself to do the swap myself If i had a cherry picker ???
ha, i have been planning on going to the junk yards around here and looking for a gsr. To swap over the gsr you need the skunk2 manifold, the vtec cpu, and a cable tranny. My question is, can you swap gears out of the gsr tranny into my ls cable tranny and bolt that up to tbe b18c1. And ware can i buy the right cpu for my 90ls to get the b18c1 running.
I’m not clear on what is required to do the auto to 5-spd swap, but obviously there is no clutch pedal, so there is probably no cable either. If he has to install all that stuff, could he just install the comperable parts from a hydrolic car? Just wondering, and I think that’s what he was trying to get at.
