Ignition Switch

I checked my local auto parts and they didnt have the ignition switch in stock for my transmission. They have to special order it and asked me if the car was standard or auto. Is there really a difference between the Ignition switch on both manual and auto? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My Acura dealer says they are all the same.

To be clear, your looking for the ign. switch and harness, not the key cylinder, correct? 94

Wow! Thanks for checking, fcm. Correct, it is just the switch and harness I am talking about. The guy at the auto store tried selling me the switch with the key cylinder and harness for $500 and i dont need it all. One last question, I am able to just unclip the harness from the switch itself, right?

Thanks for the offer lsjdmteg but ill just get one locally. i dont have paypal yet or any of those cards to be dealing online.

If I recall there is a different between auto an stick only in the wiring on the back of the switch that screws in to the housing (it has the white plastic ) auto has two extra wires if i recall should check in to that

make sure u unplug the battery befiore u play with that …sparks were in front of my face -_-…

any idea what the two extra wires do? my car works differently because i can off/on my car on N and also remove the key on N. its an AUTO.

oh man! good advice. thanks bro!

The ign. switch harness and ign. switch are one unit and can not be diconnected from each other without “de-soldering”, the ign. switch unscrews from key cylinder housing and the harness unplugs from the under dash fuse box and a second plug… http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Acura-Integra-OEM-Igntion-Switch-W-Wiring-90-91-92-93-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZYearQ3a1991Q7cModelQ3aIntegraQQhashZitem255fe22493QQitemZ160522445971QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories 94

here is a pic of the auto switch as you see it has two extra wires then what fcm posted

thank you both. i ordered mine from the dealership so i should be fine.

I replaced mine a few years ago. Disconnect the battery as suggested. When you’re trying to put the new one on, put the key into the metal cylinder (as you normally would when you are going to start the car, just don’t turn it to ACC or ON or START). This helps align the white plastic part of the new switch as you’re installing it. You can see that part on the link that fcm posted.

Thanks for the advice… i never thought of that. Did you have a hard time trying to remove the philips screw from the back?
