I'm Looking to buy a...

92 ls teg. (I did a bunch of searches and got conflicting stories and couldn’t find all of the answers to my questions).

Heres the deal:

The car I’m looking at is in overall great shape. It has 136k miles and a rebuilt engine in it from a local Acura dealer and that only has about 6k miles on it. The car runs great, accept one of the motor mounts is broken and the car shakes like crazy all of the time(braking, idle, normal driving, etc.). The motor mount has been broken since the engine was rebuilt. The acura dealership quoted him at $300 to fix it at the time of the rebuild (it was documented on an invoice so I know it’s not really an axle or something). I beleive he said it was the passenger side mount.

Now my questions are…

#1. How many motor mounts are there and where are they located at?

#2. How much would the passenger side mount cost to replace (oem part and labor)?

#3. How hard is it to replace the passenger side mount?

#4. Do you think the other mounts are damaged after 6k miles of driving with one broken and the car shaking like that?

#5. How much would all of the mounts cost to replace (oem parts and labor)?

Any help or comments from you guys would be greatlly aprecciated. Thanks

Anyone?

To answer some of your questions, run a search for the Helms Manual in either here or the Archives forum.

#2: Motor mounts should cost roughly $20 each used from a wrecker. More than $200 each new from the dealer. You might want to consider Polyurethane motor mounts (try HASport.com).

#3: Depends on your mechanical ability.

#4: Possibly. I would have it checked and verified by an outside source though, not just the Acura dealer.

#5: Labour-wise, it should only cost $50-70 per mount taking about 30-45min. for each motor mount. This is a very rough estimate. I would do #4 first before having the rest replaced.

Thanks for the help The oz. I found out all of my answers and they seem to be quite different than all of yours, but thanks for trying anyway
