I'm sick of this problem

For the last week, the checking light has been on.
replaced,
coil
rotor
wires
plugs
o2 sensor
timing belt is fine, no teeth missing.
took ditributor apart, there was lots of shredded copper wire wrapped around everything.
so i cleaned it up , best i could,put everything back ,
and the light is still on.
ecu is reading code 9
My friend said the bearing in the distributor
could be bad, thats why the copper wire was everywhere.
Well i just bought my 96 ls head, so i guess its not a big deal,i’m going to get a different ditributor anyways,
but just for future refrence, does anybody know whats up ?

did you actually diagnose those things as faulty before replacing them?

in teh teg tips it says code 9 is no.1 cyl position. not familiar with it but perhaps your timing is off? skipped tooth maybe. TDC not set correctly maybe…

i thought code 9 was crank sensor

i have the SAME ****ing problem.

NOTHIGN WORKS!

i replaced the distributor with BRAND NEW parts from Acura, still the light remains. did a full tune-up also.

****ing code 9. i’m about to find the ****ing wire that hooks to the check engine light and cut it.

you could always just pull the bulb out :stuck_out_tongue:

lol whatever works. at this point i dont care. it feels a tad slower, but that could just be my imagination. it still revs all the way up to 8…

cel code#9:no.1 cylinder position(cyl sensor), according to the cheapy Chiltons manual:

Crank, TDC and CYL sensor:

The crank or crankshaft angle sensor signal is used to determine the timing for fuel injection and ignition timing. It is also used to generate the engie rpm signal. The TDC sensor signal, found only on Integra, Vigor and 86-90 Legend is used to dtermine ignition timing during start-up or when the crank signal is abnormal. The CYL sensor is used to detect the position of no. 1 cylinder, the signal is used to trigger the sequential fuel injection.

On integra, vigor and 86-90 legend, these sensors are contained within the distributor. The signals are generated by the rotation of toothed wheels passing through pick-up coils. In some cases, the CYL sensor is incorporated with the other two. The function of these components does not change, but if any signal is defective, the entire distributor must be replaced as an assembly.

maybe we need new injectors or wiring…

your motor is prolly running retarded… that’s why it is slower.

You need a new distributor

I got a code 9 last month, changed everything out, coil, ignition module, new cap, rotor…only to find out the entire distributor needs to be rebuild/replaced. I decided to find another distributor, replaced it, and the problem was solved.

i wonder if i took out my ecu for 5 minutes and put it back in (after about a week of having the brand new distributor installed) if the light would go off…
