Are those visors like oem or what?
From what I can tell, they are like oem. The main differences between the oem visors, and these, are the oem visors use 4 clips each to hold them on, where these use 3. The also come with double sided tape as well. pics of fitment soon.
VIS side skirts came in today. as did my nice JDM ITR cams
No pics? Lol
Are you planning on running the ITR cams with stock valvetrain?
nope
Might also be snatching up some interior goodies from hb420, fairly soon, as well. Should be nice.
I also picked up some 01 JDM ITR cams for my GSR. I was just wondering how you where planning on running yours. Are you planning to rev past 8k?
Great job bringing the car back man. Its nice to see another G2 member rockin the JDM GSR. I know mines hellla fun.
When I bought the cams, I also got a full set of JDM ITR valve-springs. I have some Type-R retainers from an old head I was messing with a while back, so I’ll be reusing them for the build.
I’m basically converting my head from a GS-R head, to a Type-R head. Also putting on a first gen skunk 2 intake manifold. The goal is to get this motor performing as good, or better than a stock Type-R. Since the GS-R P72 head has a higher compression ratio, thanks to it’s combustion chamber size difference, I’m thinking it will give a bit of a head start to making a little bit more power than a stock ITR, after a good tune.
The guy tuning my setup has tuned COMPLETELY stock Type-R motors into the 190’s, using only bolt ons. I’ll be happy if I get in the 180whp range. Anything more will just be a pleasant bonus.
Pics of the skirts mounted or unmounted does not matter to me.
visors installed today:
It’s amazing how much a few pieces of plastic can change the look of a car. If the visors made that much of a difference, I REALLY can’t wait until I get the skirts and lip on. they aren’t going on for a few weeks, though. Going to have some body work done (fixing small dings, and a newly discovered rust spot (UUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHH) then I’m painting the skirts, and doing the expected trimming to make them fit right. I mocked them up yesterday when I received them and the doors have trouble shutting.
Thanks, Dave, for the help over the phone from 3,000 miles away.
Also, Teg Fares, I will be going a little past 8,000 after the tune. I’m gonna be running on an ITR basemap for a few miles (literally until it gets to the shop for a tune) but, after the tune, I’m going to be cutting it back to 8,400-8,500. I don’t want to rev too much higher than stock. Can’t wait to feel it once it’s basically been converted to “Type-R” specs. Hoping, after the tune, to get it to perform a few horses better than an ITR motor.
I have a date with the dyno tomorrow for a couple baseline pulls. Gonna see what the b18c is making in stock form.
Not sure what you mean by the GSR head has a higher CR?
The ITR motor overall has a higher CR than your GSR. But this is just assuming you’re running a stock GSR motor (stock block).
And your GSR drivetrain is already built to handle stock redlines, so as long as you’re keeping that, the stock valvetrain would be plenty.

I dont think he is arguing that the ITR is an overall better motor over the GSR. I think he is stating with his bolt ons, ITR cams and valvetrain, and a good tune his setup will be comparable with a stock ITR or better.
As far as redline goes…Its probably a good idea to rev to 8400 or 8500k with ITR cams for them to reach their full potential in the GSR. I would personally run upgraded valve springs and retainers just for peace of mind, if for nothing else. That ITR set should suffice.

I like your plan. Looks like you have a really good plan on making that extra power. Im planning on running a similar setup with those cams when its all said and done. Im in for these updates. Keep it up, dude.

Oh, was just confused by the “GSR head has higher CR” comment.
And I agree…if ya got’em, might as well run’em.
The gsr head has a smaller combustion chamber than a type-r. So if i were to equip itr pistons, the compression ratio would actually be higher. The shaping of the chamber also utilizes quench better than a pr3 type r head.
On a related head note, anyone have a set of adjustable cam gears? Preferably black or blue. I jave $ on jand, so show me what you have, what you want for them, and lets talk turkey…
btw, here are the cams and valve springs:
Thanks, Dave!
Visited the dyno today.
For a stock JDM B18C (GS-R, NOT Type-R), I pulled a consistent 151whp on all 3 pulls. Chris said the dyno reads about 5hp low, so it is pretty consistent with what he and I were expecting. He feels with the head work I’m going to be doing, that he can get me into the 180s easily, and should even be able to get it into the 190s.
vids coming as soon as they upload.
Looking good Jake!
With the head work you should hit 190’s with little to no problem, with mine I got an extra 32hp so just as a reference it should help you hit your mark. Dyno numbers are just a bragging number anyways. Just have fun with it and you’ll be set!
Exactly!
