inaccurate Speedo and RPM's?

I recently did a LED bulb change for my gauge cluster and broke my speedo cable in the process. I bought a brand new speedo from the dealer and installed it. It works, but the mph is off by about 7-8 mph now. Weird thing is the RPM’s are off by about 700-800rpm also. Anyone have an idea of whats going on here? I thought the speedo cable only affects the speed reading and not the RPM reading. How do I recalibrate the speedo so it is accurate? How about the RPM’s?
I have stock wheels/tires on and I installed a brand new speedo from the dealer. I couldnt really find anything via search. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

…its been awhile, and I cant figure out whats going on still.
I tried taking out the speedo out from the transmission side and reseat it, but that didnt help. The c-clip is holding it in nicely and its not loose.
Anyone else have experience with this and perhaps a fix?
thanks

Did you plug the gauge cluster in correctly? Did you damage the printed circuit?

yes, it was plugged in just fine.
I didnt do anything that made me think I damaged the circuit board, if I did I would of replaced it before asking for assistance.

dayum! almost 3 years and it’s still not resolved? sorry but i can’t help you there. do you still have the led bulbs? just a thought, have you tried switching it back to stock bulbs and see if it changes?

Check the grounds

Yeah the LED bulbs are still in there. That was one thought of mine as well, to remove the LED bulbs and put back the original bulbs to see what happens…, but then it dawned on me that the speedo is mechanical not electrical.

the grounds in the engine bay?

and you probaly didn’t touch the needless did you considering you only did the bulbs and not the gauges…right?

yeah I did not touch the needles, the plastic shroud never came off the cluster.

On the back of the cluster there positive and negative connections check and see if anything looks burnt or if a screw is loose if thats all good your going to have follow the negative(the grounds, since it seems theres power)to the plugs then trace them to where they are grounded. Could be loose or torn. you will need the manual to help you further. It looks overwhelming but once you figure out what your looking at it gets easier. If the grounds attached to the body are good then its a matter of figuring out where the wire is shorting out which means delooming the harness and checking those wires. If you have to do that then just follow from the cluster plugs. Hope you figure it out

I can understand the RPM’s being off because of an electical problem, but the speedo is a mechanical function via the speedo cable that plugs in from the transmission to the back of the cluster.
Im wondering if there is something also electrical to it as well. It would be good to test the speedo by completely unpluging the cluster from the electrical harness and just leaving the speedo cable in to see if the speedo still works.

Correct. See if the speedo cable is hard to turn may need some lubrication. Also maybe the speedo itself needs lube or is shot(im not sure on how much or what would be a good lube for the speedo though).Could also be the vss itself. Start with the easy fix and eliminate what it could be, and go from there.
