infinity basslink and 652i

just got my infinity basslink and 652i references yesterday.

basslink review:
i used to have a 89 prelude with 3 different sub setups (1 12 bandpass, 1 10 bandpass, 2 12s sealed) and i can easily say this is the best bass i ever had. sure, it doesn’t blur my vision like my other setups but the bass is clean, clean, clean. i love the remote gain (a must have for me ever since i had an amp with it), bass eq, xover, and it’s a small all in one package. 2 thumbs up.

652i coax review:
the previous owner of my car had 5.25 jbl decades in the front doors (thought they were 6.5s until i popped off the cover:shock: ) which sounded very nice. compared to the jbls the 652is sound very neutral. the speaker is very laid back, almost as if its sole purpose is to reproduce the music and nothing more. the jbls on the other hand were very vibrant and sounded very good for 5.25s. overall, i like the 652is. they have the same bass output as the jbls (guess everyone was right about the 652is lacking midbass) and have a very smooth tweeter. before installing the speakers, i was thinking about getting a 2ch amp to power the 652is but after listening to them off the deck power i am very impressed. no distortion whatsoever. thumbs up.

my system:
alpine 7894
infinity 652i
(no rear speakers)
infinity basslink

after all the sound systems i went through, i guess the lesson for me is that less is more. too bad i found this out after i spent all that money… sigh at least i’m happy now. hope you enjoyed the review (although rather long, sorry)!

maybe your previous subs had cost less than the basslink and 652’s combined?

u have basically the setup im going to get. i already have replaced my stock speakers with the infinity 652i’s and am looking forward to eventually getting the same exact alpine cd player lol and some type of sub. how much did u get the alpine for and was it hard to install b/c i heard talk of u gotta connect it directly to the battery n stuff. also, can u tell me about this basslink thing please? its obviously a sub, but does it like come with an amp or somethin to power it as well? is it a 10", 12" etc.? thanks a lot, peace…

i got my alpine for 350 from a local stereo shop when it first came out. they should be a lil cheaper now that it is in stock everywhere. as for the install, well, if you’re gonna get the basslink you’re gonna have to get power through the firewall anyway. so i suggest installing the 7894 and the basslink at the same time. keep in mind, you’re gonna need to find a place to connect your ground wire because the 7894 recommends you not connect it to your stock wiring but rather somewhere on the body. lemme know if you need more detail on this (not that hard).

the basslink is an all-in-one powered/enclosed sub. 10" sub with passive radiator and 200wrms class d amp, which only takes up 1 cubic foot of trunk space. not too shabby.

i think i covered all your questions but if you got more, i’ll be happy to answer them. laters…

Infinity Basslink

How much does it weigh? How much did it cost?

also, did u dynamatt your car? or is it not needed for simply a 10"? thanks

the basslink weighs about 15-20 pounds (was lazy so i took my scale from inside the house and put it in my trunk to weigh the basslink. so it might be a little off).

i got my basslink and 652is from crutchfield (i know, i know) for 385. shipping rapes people in hawaii and the 652is and basslinks i found on ebay (etc.) plus shipping came out to about 385 or more. so that’s my reason why i went through crutchfield (flat shipping) not to mention i could’ve returned the infinities if i didn’t like them.

as for dynamat, i feel it’s not really necessary. like i said earlier, the bass the basslink puts out is clean tight bass, not boomy-car-rattling bass. if anything i suggest putting dynamat on the doors. also, there’s an alternative to dynamat, it’s called raammat. i used this stuff on my lude and it is awesome. no heatgun or anything is required. just peel and seal. oh yeah, and it cost about 1/2 the price of dynamat! check it out here.

i think that covers those questions. lemme know if you got any more…

quick question, did u make a false-floor and also how have u secured the sub(-amp)? thanks…

no, i didn’t make a false floor so right now it’s loose in the trunk. but during the past week it’s been in there, it hasn’t moved around that much (either that or i don’t drive my teg hard enough). i did notice however that the basslink’s “feet” make grooves in the carpet. to rememdy this, i found some leftover carpet from around the house and covered the feet up. since i’ve put the carpet on the feet two days ago, the basslink hasn’t moved around at all. eventually i’ll find some matching black carpet or a real way to secure the basslink. but until then everything’s looking pretty good.

basslink is 280 bucks from zebaudio and comes with the bass remote

has anyone found a better price?
