Installed Tokico's, car too bouncy.. HELP

I had a set of Tokico Blue gas shocks installed with a set of HP Racing coilovers this past weekend, but something is SUPER wrong. The car bounces around like some kind of toy car. The weight shift from light acceleration causes the car to rock back and forth… ALOT. A couple pushes on the fender and the car dances around for about 5 seconds. The damn thing is undrivable. A knowledgable friend of mine suggested it might be the spring rate in the coilovers not being enough or too much for the shocks, or the shocks are too much for as light as my car is… which makes sense. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Any info is greatly appreciated.

How low are you? I wont be surprised if it bounces when you’re below -2.5"

P/S - If you didnt already know, the Blues arent really good.

welcome to my world… tokico blues arent too good for our tegs, especially w/ coilover or shocks. my car is lowered 2" all around and it still bounces! my suggestion for now is…raise it up alittle to about 1.8

how did you come to this conclusion? tokico blues are good shocks.

bluegen2: my guess is that you’re riding too low or didn’t install something correctly. tokico blues do not accomodate very low ride heights well.

This is what I keep telling people but there is always that guy who has Tokico blues and ground controlls or something like that who says that his car rides great. i raised mine up from 2.25 to 1.8 and it still bounces. just not as bad. it is now tolerable and I don’t even notice it any more. but my G/F won’t ride in the car anymore.

You are either too low, or the spring rates of the coilovers are too high for the blues.

That really sounds off. I have had my Blues with Neuspeed Race springs since 1998 and though the car is bouncy, it’s no where near what you describe.

Pushing down on a corner a couple times and letting go should not make the car bouce for 5 seconds.

You know for sure they put new shocks on right? It almost sounds like blown stock shocks with race springs.

shocks are totally blown. raise it back up to around stock height then replace em with adjustables if you plan on going more than 1.8". and id get some better springs or gc/skunk2 coilovers. cheap coilovers are stiff as hell and will quickly destroy shocks when dropped that low

you should get true coilovers- it helps alot-my car is lowered about 4 inches all the way around and rides ALMOST like stock. EVERY lowered car in the entire world bounces. But not that much, pretend like you have hydraulics.

Wow…“bounces like some kind of toy car.”
haha…that’s pressed messed up

I have Tokico Blues with H&R Sport.
Not really bouncy but ain’t the greatest ride.
Yup something is wrong with yours for sure…did you install it yourself?

yes…this is the case with me as well. I have coilovers with Tokico Blues and it bounces.
The thing that kills me is this, I couple of my friends have 94 civics and orderd the same coilovers as i did (R1 Racing Coils) their coils have the exact same spring rating as my kit. The box sates 450p and 350p ratings. Now, instead of insatlling Tociko Blues they simply got KYB GR2’s. Their ride is incredible. Can someone tell me why. Should I be purchasing adjustable shocks for the front or what?
Thanks all.

FIXED IT!!!

Good news!! I went out and raised the car on the jack and the coil (metal tube w/ threads) of the coilovers had about .75" of vertical travel… SO… the coilovers were just set way too low. I put them up about an inch and took it for a spin and it made all the difference. No problems. I also have a nice even wheel gap all the way around, so the stance is a little better looking. Thanks for all the responses guys… it really made me feel important sniff sniff :stuck_out_tongue:
