Installing springs... need advice please

hey wassup everyone. i’m gonna do my first major modification on my car. i’m on a tight budget so i’m planning to install a set of Nuespeed Race Springs on my 93 ls with original shocks. Does that pose any problems? is there any tips or advice you pros can give me? Thanks a alot

Have you got a camber kit for at least the front? Also I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but your shocks probably won’t last long on a 2" drop.

I have Neuspeed Race springs.

Go ahead and install them, you’ll want to buy new shocks ASAP. You will bounce around like crazy and it will be pretty uncomfortable.

You’ll also want to get F/R camber kits ASAP.

How bouncy is it gonna be? is it gonna be bouncy like those cheap imatation springs? and how much do camber kits run for? And do i need a camber kit if i go do an ALIGNMENT after the drop? thanks for your replies.

U will NEED aftermarket shocks…Neuspeed even recommends them in their instructions somewhere, as for bounciness, ur ride will be nice for a short time but when they blow, every dip u hit is gonna be up and down and up and down. As for the camber kit, u will definitely need the front, Id recommend Ingalls Extreme Camber Kit, if u do a “SEARCH” for “camber Kit”, u’ll find all u need to know about which one and installation tips. Oh, as for ur ? about alignment, Race springs will lower ur car too much to adjust properly, thats what the camber kit is for. HTH

hey everyone, thanks for the response. now does anyone have any tips or advice for the installations?

Theres a couple ways to install springs…I guess when I 1st did mines, ,I replaced the shocks with it so I removed the shock completely from the car and then remove/installed the springs, I have come accustomed to that method plus that way I dont have to mess with taking the A-arm off and dealing with wobbly suspension stuff when I put it all back together, here is the another method that works, its done on a Civic but same procedure. Too bad u dont live in Seattle, Id do it for ya and show ya how, good luck bro.HTH

check out the teg tips section…pretty thorough… but you may want to rent/buy/borrow a spring compressor… never tried the towel method before??

other things:

-shop manual- buy one or borrow one, takes a step by step approach when disassembling things. good reference to have, especially if you want to do your own work on your car.

-liquid wrench- if you don’t have an impact wrench laying around, it will be helpful for those tight bolts.

-work on one side at a time- sounds simple but can be a life saver when you are not sure what goes where.

  • when you get the strut/spring assembly off- the nut on the top of the assembly may be hard to remove with hand tools. the nut spins with the strut shaft… you’ll see what i mean. if this happens, don’t use vice grips or pliers on the shaft. take them down to a shop with power tools. ask if they could use an impact wrench to get the nuts off. takes 2 seconds.

-make sure you have the right tools- make life a whole lot easier.

-buy a friend lunch- and then ask if they can help!! extra hands and feet are always helpful.

hope that helps…thats all i could think of now…good luck and have fun.

save your $ and buy everything at once… don’t half ass a suspension. IF your going to do it… do it right the first time.

Think about this… do you really want to be bouncing around like crazy… back aches… head aches. Then you have to take a second day to install the struts so now you have to do the whole process AGAIN.

Trust do it once and be done with it. Save up and extra $400-$600 and get it all at once. your body will thank you. Oh yeah if your struts are already done you’ll have a great time looking like a kangaroo driving down the street…:gay:
