Insulation/Cold interior

The heat on my 91 GS is fine, for the driver and passenger, but the backseaters are left freezing their nuts off! (I live where it hits -40c).

the back of the door windows freeze up from the wind coming in (even with defroster on), so I figure the windows aren’t sitting flush, but on furthar inspection, they seem fine… its both windows, not just one…

does anyone have a quick fix for this? or has anyone also had this problem?

dont know about that i live in hot ass cali.

weather that cold is hard to combat, but If I’m reading what you’ve posted correctly for the windows anyway, it sounds like your rubber seal is going bad. Need to look into replacing it.

yeah that could be the problem, when it warms up or I get a garage i was thinking about checking the clips, because its fairly easy to push the window out about 1/2 a inch on the back side, this problem is really annoying since my rear defroster isn’t working to its full haha, (I gotta fix some of the contacts so all of the lines defrost) it frosts up my rear window :(…

If you can hear excessive wind noise originating from the trailing edge of the window at speed, then you may need to realign the window so it seals properly. If there isn’t wind noise, then they’re probably fine.

I believe your problem is simply that your heater isn’t putting out enough heat to warm up the entire window, and your passenger’s breath is condensing and freezing on the surface of the glass as a result.

I would suggest that you don’t use the climate control’s recirculate setting. Keeping it on the fresh air setting will help control the humidity in the cabin. Also, if temperatures are consistently near -40 deg C then you may want to consider installing a hotter thermostat for the winter months. You may also want to experiment with a winter front to block the grill area (just remember to remove it when temperatures warm up again).

Thanks Green, I was thinking the exact thing, its more of a spaztic temp, couple days ago it was minus 45 and today its +2… go figure, I live in the praries…

Im gonna try to realign them, I assume somewhere like piston ring (Part source etc) will have the clips for my windows assuming they are broken correct? realigning my windows, I believe, should be in the “DIY” Section right?

You’ll probably have to go to a Honda/Acura dealer to replace any broken parts. You might be able to find upholstery and door panel clips at a Partsource or Canadian Tire, but I wouldn’t expect you’d find much else.

Of course, it is possible that the ability to push the back of the window out is simply a consequence of frameless windows. Mine have some play also, but the window seals fine. If you do need to adjust the alignment your best bet is to find a copy of the Helms manual. It outlines the procedure and specifies the proper gaps.

I think it’s just tough for a 1.8 L engine to put out enough heat to deal with -40 C.

I’ll attempt to take a look at my service manual for this info and scan it in for all to have, I probably need to do the same thing as well, so I’ll share the wealth! be up sometime after 6 or 7pm central time when I get done working out after work.

I have my book at my parents house, I’ll see if I can find anything, its jsut weird how the fronts of the windows seal fine, the backs seem fine, but it still happens, maybe I should over compensate it or something, and deal with broken glass every 100 door closes haha

For anyone that wants a PDF of the window adjustment pages out of the Factory Service manual send me an email saying as such to mzeglis@gmail.com or put your email up here and I’ll send it to you, I don’t feel like going through the process time to convert it after I just spent the time to scan it in.
