i was talking to some guy in class today which has a 94 LS swap in his EK pushing 140 HP he argued that the only thing that makes those extra 10 hp from the 93-94 is the intake manifold…in that case since its an LS…can intake manifolds be swapped?? or is it true about the power gains??
Do some searches on this site regarding the power difference between 90-91 and 92-93. The topic has been covered for years and it’s not just the intake manifold that is different. Cams are different, exhaust manifolds are different and ecu’s are different.
+1
Intake manifold on the b18a1 motor is PGM-FI vs MPFI on the b18b1. Not sure if it makes a difference in HP, but it certainly does make a difference in fuel efficiency, a/f mixture etc…

uh that’s not the issue. other than the 90-91 which is OBD0, the a1 in 93 and the b1 in 94 are both obd1. the fuel injection is the same.
from 93 to 94 the changes were as stated. camshafts, exhaust manifolds, slight differences in intake manifolds.
the differences are negligable. the a1 vs the b1 it’s the camshaft profiles and maps that contribute to the power differences.
i swapp the newer b18b manifold on my b18a had more torque also the newer b18b cams are larger then the b18a from what i remember the 90-91 exhaust cam hads the biggest lobes between the 92-01 b18a/b
cams are not bigger until maybe the newer yr integra or b20 98+. I say this becuase its cover all over about it.
90-91/92-93 that 10hp should be from the 92-93’s 4-2-1 exhaust header, ecu and the map air/fuel differences. Different tunes if u look at the basemaps.
I have a 91 and the restricted parts are the 4-1 header, ecu maps differs.
remember that 10hp is probably no more than 2-3whp/1/2tq

so, what your saying is if i want to make noticable power gain all i would have to do is switch cams from the a1 on the 90 to 94 b1 motor as well as the map sensor to get a slight bump in power? And are the cam lobes on the automatics different from the manual cams?
i know the 90-91 hads the 4-1 style header but i remember i compared the differnt between cam from the haynes book so im pretty sure the 90-91 exhaust cam was bigger if i had a micrometer i can test between them since i have all these stock cams in hand
i came across this one day, and don’t know how true it is, but if it is, i would think it would make a pretty big differenec as well http://hondaswap.com/reference-materials/throttle-body-size-chart-29095/
the camshafts aren’t bigger, they have slightly more duration.
the power differences between the two are pretty small guys. going through the trouble of switching things around will yield a negligible difference. if you want more power, there are many other options that will get you to your goals.
