ok, im building an NA b20b p8r, i want a better IM because for some reason the p8r came with a high rise IM (about 4 inches higher than my b18 one) and we all know the b18 one has crappy air flow for the p8r’s huge ports. well i was wonder which of these are the better one, and which one would be at a good price: blox, skunk 2, or JG. i am on a bit of a budget, and want a DC sports 4-1 header (found some on a good site for like $200 lol), so will need to make this puppy breathe!
all those manifolds increase flow above 7g rpm if i remember…but your B20 makes power way lower than that… are you planning on porting the head and doings cams as well? if not id say just find an LS manifold
i was planning on porting and doing cams in the future, maybe even some high CR pistons as well. this would not be done now, but maybe next summer when i have the money.
I’ve been told that the Skunk2 actually shows good hp and tq gains across the whole “usable” power band (I assume usable means above 2,500 rpm). I could be horribly mistaken, however.
i heard that too. the overall airflow is quite superior to the smaller b18 one. the runners are shorter and it’s just fatter in general. i don’t see why it wouldn’t make a difference. especially with some nice DC type R style headers and a 2.25" exhaust, this puppy would have no breathing restrictions. maybe even an h22 TB would be nice, they are huge.
Actually, dollar for dollar I’d just get JG’s rebuilt/enlarged throttle body (62mm). It’s not NEARLY as expensive as a BBK if you’ve got the core to send them (I think it’s only around $120 or so).
Mind sharing where you found some DC headers for that price??
hummm…i forget what the site was, somebody on g2ic sent me the link, i will look tomorrow, i gotta go to bed now, so tomorrow i will look through my posts and find it. excellent site, much things to be bought for cheap. RS*R ex-mag cat back for $400 with shipping…not bad at all!
but was that usable power gain test done on a Vtec or non Vtec motor
They tested both engines and found good gains on each. I wish I remembered where I saw that article…I’ll see if I can’t find it in my stack of back-issues.
was it stock or modded?
I believe it was lightly built…basic bolt-ons and the such.
i have an unused Edelbrock VictorX intake manifold for sale for $250
I just finished my B20Z swap tonight. I have heard this saying many times before…people assume that the B20 makes its power in the midrange because of the head design or whatever…please realize it makes it’s power in the midrange mainly because of the stock IM.
I have a DC sports header, AEM CAI and BLOX IM on my B20Z swap. When I had the B18, it had the stock IM. After driving it tonight for the first time, I must say I am totally surprised. I thought the BLOX IM and B20 would negate each other…but this combo is by far the biggest improvement I have ever personally done to this Teg. Off the line, it feels like a B18. After 2500 rpms, it feels like what I assumed a B20Z should…expectations met. After 5500 rpms, it slings along to redline in a very surprising way. Whereas the b18 kind of pooped out and stopped making more power after 5500-6000, this B20Z races to redline like a champ. I was shocked, I never expected the B20Z to do that. I am so pleased.
My suggestion, get a BLOX IM and a bigger TB. The next step for my car is a bigger TB and Crower 403 cams…
I also installed a Blox IM and noticed some good gains with my B18a1 motor. The install was a pain but after I took it for a drive I forgot about all that work
