I just picked up a db2 and while driving it in the rain I turned the lights on. Once I got home I forgot to turn the lights off. When I went to get back into the car to turn the lights off there was no “chime” to indicate that I had left the lights on. This is my 2nd DA and I could have sworn there was a “chime” that activated when the lights were left on. Can anyone verify that?
yup.my gsr does it.everytime i leave me fogs on.
Do your door pins work (does your dome light come on when your doors are open?). The door pin design in our cars suck, they easily can get corroded or get worn down so much they fail to make physical contact. If they don’t work, take them out (one screw), and try and clean off the connections; it’s really a very simple design…
edit: The doors pins complete the circuit for the chime. If the door pins don’t work, neither will the chime

I will try it out tomorrow. I appreciate the input. I have the factory service manuals and I couldnt find anything about the chime.
Well, I took the door pins out today, made sure they were connected, cleaned off the rust and still no chime. Also discovered that the light in the glove box does not come on (which I replaced the bulb), neither does the interior light when I open the door when I have it set in the position to come on when I open the door.
I took the lower part of the dash apart and the center console to inspect the actual “chime”, which I did not find, and discovered some parts missing. I just bought this db2 and have plans to bring it back to “perfect” meaning the right screws and bolts where they are supposed to be. I am just OCD like that. So I discovered that part of the bracket that is anchored to the center console dash and the body is missing. I’m not sure that it has anything to do with the chime or glove box light and interior lights.
Anyone have input? I have the factory service manuals for reference but they only have so much information.
Maybe its your icu going out slowly. I know mine wasnt working along with the rear defroster and few other things, and now the chime works since i have replaced the icu.
I hope not. There are some things that I am thinking may be the issue.
-
The radio was replaced and maybe there is a disconnect somewhere.
-
The carpet was replaced and who ever installed it did not take the time to be careful with removal of the interior plastics and cracking them our breaking them. Also, the bottom of the support bracket for the dash, (the one in the center of the dash that is bolted to the body and the dash) is missing. I doubt that has anything to do with it unless there is supposed to be a ground somewhere.

There is a alarm system that is not active with wires aok over the place. Maybe a disconnect from when out was installed.
If you’ve verified your door pins work (with a multimeter, make sure the male spade has continuity with the metal housing), I would try a new ICU next, as mentioned they are notorious for going out…
i believe (possibly) that there should be a ground bolted down near the center console framing area. check for any disconnected, loose or poor connection grounds in that area.
but yes, the chime is one of the icu’s functions. since you have the manual, check and see if the glovebox, dome light and chime share a ground
it could also be 2 separate problems. the glovebox switch as one, and the domelight/chime another

I will look into it. I appreciate the help.
Today, I was showing the car to a buddy of mine and showing the small issues I have and turned the lights on with the key out of the ignition and I be damned the dinner came on. The interior light did not come on though with it in the right position.
Also, I thought that when you unlock the doors, if you have the key turned to the right for a few seconds the passenger door will unlock.
Did you verify that the door slider moves far enough to actually make contact? Cause that’s why my chime was not working.
I did. I took both of them off and cleaned them.
sorry, but i have to ask; you did check the dome light bulb, yes?
I think he meant if the contacts are touching each other. I’m sure the spring never fails but just look to see if the whole pin assembly works by using your fingers to test them.
Speaking of pins, I need to clean mine for the 7th time since 1991. They get corroded easily.
