There is a noise coming from my interior that’s driving me nuts. It’s coming from the long metal plate that is underneath the driver’s side dash (under the lower dash panel). It only makes the rattling noise at about 20-30mph. It sounds like a bolt is rattling around in there (which isn’t true) or it’s clanging against something.
I’m about ready to rip that whole metal plate off of there!
so just rip it off and see if its the knee bolster. its the metal plate behind the knee panel. has 4 bolts holding it (for my car atleast.), u might have to take off or move the console a little to get to the right side bolts. take it off and see if the rattle is gone. seems like thats the thing ur talking about.
If you’ve had that piece out before, sometimes the metal clips get bent and don’t hold everything together as tightly as they did before, so you may want to get new clips or try bending them back into shape…
I guess I can try to take it out. I thought it was there for a reason, like to support the dash. I don’t wanna have the dash fall in my lap while driving.
Racer X: Sometimes I wonder the same thing. :uhoh:
I had the same prolem, and it was a bolt rattling…i took the panel off then i just strted hitting the metal thing when i was trying to find out where the noise was coming from and then whala! the bolt fell on my face and the rattle was gone…
the knee bolster doesnt do much. i think it holds the knee panel and protect the bunch of wires down there. u can take the knee panel and bolster off and go test drive it. see if the problem goes away.
