Interior noises

Our Tegs suffer from rattles at the dashboard area. Plese find one Service Bulletin published by Acura that shows how cure them.

It could be alot of things. Stuff in your glovebox or door pockets is a big cause of many of my rattles. The gauge cluster plastic could be a bit loose. The knee panel on the drivers side tends to do it too.

The best sure fire way is to start her up when she’s cold; then touch every panel or area where it’s rattling. Then get in there & figure out what the root problem is. Usually, you need to tighten a screw or maybe use some rubber gasket maker to cushion it.

This process of elimination has been the best weapon in my “rattle patrol’s” arsenal. You probably won’t find a service bulletin on the problem. They’d just say bring it in & we’ll find out. Too many factors to narrow it down to an end all be all fix.

Corniest quote ever: "Get yours today! JDM is IN!"

My DA has like literally ten different squeaks and rattles…you will never get rid of them all…the cars are just old.

I beg the differ. I have many rattles coming from different places. Such as: drivers and pasenegers door panel, dash near radio, and rear hatch. As a matter of a fact, I have rattles coming from everywhere. I will resvolve all of them, one by one. I will eliminate the rattles one at a time, starting with the rear hatch. I was planning on insulating the entire car for two reason: to dampen vibrations and deaden exterior noises. I’ll keep ya posted.

Yeah, i’m in the process of quieting up my interor.

Greasing up my clutch pedal, tightening door panels and C-pillar bar, doing the window rattle fix, and replacing my speedo cable…

It can be done, I eliminated all of mine a few years ago. It really improved my overall attitude about the car. The biggest problems I found with the dash is those metal clips get loose and fall onto the lower metal frame and some of those square white nuts were stripped and need replacing with new ones. Eliminating rattles is probably the cheapest upgrade you can do to an old Teg.

Post up when someone finds what the damn squeek is in the hatch area!!! I first thought it was the rubber stops on the hatch, where they meet on the metal. I saw the little circles where they contact the metal were worn off.

I stuffed a rag on each side to see if it quieted the noise, and it didnt. Shits driving me crazy!!! LOL especially with these back country roads…

I’m now leaning towards the hatch hinges…?

When I built the stereo in my da I spent months of isolating rattles and I can say there is definitely hope. I tore the interior out to sound deaden, and used weather stripping and foam sheets to eliminate many rattles. I also replaced much of the hardware. Once the car is sound deadened, finding and fixing rattles becomes much easier.

What could resolve…

hatch rattle? it doesn’t rattle I guess as much but when I pump the sounds it rattles on the hatch and you can really hear it outside.(sounds disturbingly ugly) also…on my headliner where my rear mirror is rattles but that duznt bother me much. i jus wanna getrid of the xterior noise.

Might be suspension. My spring seats are dried out. I sprayed mine with silicone spray and they quieted down for a few miles and are back to their noisy selves.

i used to have many many noises coming from my car when i drove

all i did was reach down to my cd deck and turn the volume up a little bit and problem solved

How I got rid of my hatch rattle…

Tools:

  • Philips screw driver
  • Velcro adhesive squares or strips, circles, etc…(the soft parts); or even something thin, and soft that won’t move a lot. You could probably use paper towels, but I had alot of spare velcro adhesives so that’s what I used.
  • Rubbing alcohol (if you’re going to use adhesives)

Procedure:

I opened the hatch and tapped on the plastic panel that covers the area underneath the hatch, around its latch to get a better understanding of where the rattle was coming from. I then unscrewed the plastic anchoring screws that hold in the plastic I took off the panel and cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and stuck my adhesive squares on key points that the sound seemed to be coming from. I also stuck them on the area around where the holes for the anchoring screws were, and where there were dips and curves in the plastic that lined up with the metal of the hatch. I put it all back together and there was no more rattle. Here is a picture. It took me 15 minutes and $0 dollars.:bye: :ohyeah:

^^ haha I did that too except I use thin weather stripping pieces all around that piece then just screwed it back on… rattle all gone! Now all I need to fix are the windows and I’m good to go!

hatch squeek is covered in teg tips i believe. it has to do with adjusting the latch if i remember correctly
