I’ve been having some serious problems with my intermediate shaft (drivers side between the axle and the trans) and my axle on that side. Whats been happening is the axle just wont stay in the half-shaft @ ALL! @ first we looked @ it and notices that the c-clip on the end of the axle was missing and thought thats why it wouldnt stay in but after we replaced it and 1/2hr of driving it came out again! Whats going on here? Is my shaft stripped from it coming out and driving? Someone please help.
Not positve but I read something today that said if you didn’t align your transmission right then your axles wouldn’t go in right. Hopefully that may help ya.
make sure ur axle isnt collapsed @ the CV joint…
and does it only plop out when turning? cant imagine it would while going straight
Is it possible that the original clip is stuck in there so that when you put the axle in, even with the new clip, the old clip is keeping the new clip from engaging. The old clip might have pulled off the axle and is stuck in the intermediate shaft.
i have a half shaft that ill sell ya if u want it. shoot me an offer.

some jdm b16 half shafts are diffrent lenghts deppending on what it came out of in japan i found this out when putting one in a crx and i search the web and i had to use a 90-91 axle but take off one end and put on a 89 integra axle end, i am not sure if this is ur problem or if it would work on a integra but it worked on the crx i forget where i found that info at but i hope that i can help
I used my LS one cuz i bought only motor/trans/ecu from hmotorsonline. I
UPDATE: OKay so I found my problem it was my driver side axle cv @ the wheel side was seperated. So i retunred and got a new one. But I have been having SO MANY axle problems since I did the swap that I feel like somethin is causing all these problems. Also my shake under load* is getting worse and worse, and the play @ the pass side axle @ the case is getting worse too.
- @ 3000rpm’s the whole front end shakes under load (wheel, doors everything!)
I know sumthin is worng because we felt my boys 99 GSR and he doesnt have any play where the axle goes into the case on pass side like I do. Whats up here? we had the trans out and looked @ diff bearings, they seemed fine and Im not leakin any tranny fluid or nething. It feels like the axle is in the splines but not tite in the carrier, almost like its the wrong axle…
THANKS IN ADV.
c clips are most likly warn they “hold” the axles in place.
If your car is lowerd like crazy, you WILL have axle problems…
But I installed 2 new axles (both remans from pep boys and advance autoparts). Are there other c clips? This problem has been bothering me for like a month straight!!!
The shake seems to be gettin worse. And I felt my boys da and his pass side axle where it goes into the tranny has NO play @ all.
I have the same problem. Long story. My axle fits though, and is a reman from AutoZone. Some friends of mine destroyed the shaft trying to get it apart. Got another from a junkyard. Now it is shaking like crazy. Clunking sort of when taking off. Help…
don’t buy reman axles. spend the extra money on new axles… spend at least $100.

and it stopped working within 2 weeks
Did you check to see if there is a foreign object in the intermediate shaft that is preventing the axle from snapping into place. You can feel and hear it when the axle C clip snaps in. For example, there may be a buildup of crap in the intermediate shaft. When you slide in the new axle, the splines are tight enought that it picks up all the crap as it slides in and packs it all at the point where the c clip should snap in leaving no room for the clip to engage.
I have the same problem bought reman axles and installed and the car shakes really bad, I then put my boot torn orignal axles back in and shaking stops. I exchanged the axles for new reman ones and it does it again! I just wonder if I do buy oem ones from the dealer if it will actually make the difference!
I am not sure how it is in the good ol USA but here in my little city, I can get new axles with no core charge for $95.50 taxes in. Thats $96.00 US now (ha ha ha).
You were talking about slack/slop, and a clunking when you take off?? Mine was doing the same thing, and you might not like what it may be. It is possible that the pin holding the spider gears in the diff is worn outcausing all of this. If i am correct. It may break at the worst possible time and youll be on the side of the road with a huge crack or hole in the back of your tranny. I hope this is not the case, but thats what happened to me.
