is it a good idea to buy suspension from junkyard?

lately ive been going to the junkyard to pick up some parts for my car… its pretty good… i got hood, headlight, bumper, and a few other parts in pretty good coniditon…

the only reason why i would turn to junkyard over buying over the internet or from someone else is there are plenty of G2 integra there… anyways

but i would like to get my suspension replaced coz the current ones are in bad condition, its squeaky…

so is it safe to buy suspension parts from the junkyard? and how would i check to see if they are in good and safe condition?? springs and shocks is what im looking for… i could see if they have coilovers…

Its a matter of choice really.

If its squeaky I would start by isolating the issue. Take look at the bushings on the upper control arm, lower control arm, radius rod, sway bar and the end links. Then I would check out the upper and lower ball joints as well as the tie rod ends. I advise against using any of these parts from a junkyard since they all tend to wear out after nearly 20 years from the beatings they take.

I would be more open minded to used lower control arms and radius rods that are not bent as long as the bushings are replaced. I have done this before.

Junkyard springs and shocks are a crap shoot. Once you have the spring and shock assembly out then you can remove the shock and test the compression and rebound by hand. Beware of no name or cheap coil overs and springs (like the ebay brands), its not worth the time or your safety. If the shocks are OEM and original I would also pass on those. If the shocks look like they are not so old then they could be ok, its a judgment call. As for springs its not common to see OEM ones go bad so those I would not be against using them but then again yours are likely to be fine too.

I’m sure someone else may have different opinions… I tend to take a conservative approach on parts that are vital to safety.:hump: For instance I have never used junkyard brake parts and likely never will.

OP, I have decent stock suspension for sale. Only taken out because I bought lowering springs and new performance shocks. Located in Hamilton Ontario, near Toronto. Cheap. Probably the same or cheaper than a junk yard.
