Is my clutch nearing the end of it's life?

When I put the car in 1st and allow the clutch pedal to extend, it only starts grabbing about 1.5-2" from the end of clutch pedal travel. So there’s only about 1.5-2" between full engagment and full disengagment. This all takes place at when the padal is in the position nearest to me.
There is no slipage while driving along(the RPM never rises w/o the speed).

I’m just wondering if I should plan on replacing the clutch soon or if is there is just and adjustment that I can do to make the engagments occur over a greater distance.

Thanks

P.S. approximatly how many hours of pay is it for a mechanic to replace the clutch?

i think you need a new clutch cable not a new clutch the cable sometimes unwinds…blah.

i asked a clutch place and they said 4 hours it took me 13 hours+ or strait labor.

sounds like you jus need to adjust the cable. your pedel is catching too high. have a tech adjust the clutch cable and check it out then.

same thing happen’s to me.

~Andee…

wow, that would be terrific if that is what is happening.
thanks alot.

just adjust that shiznet urself. There should 2-4" of deadplay (i think)

Do you know if there are specifics on G2IC of how to do that? Deadplay is from the depresed position or the extended position?

Your engagement point is based on preference. For example, I have mine set at approximately 1.5" off the floor of the coor.

itsnot prefrence-its factory spec. As far as adjusting it, check a manual (I only know how to do the hydro’s) at kragen or any auto parts store

btw…dead play is from where the pedal is normally, until it has resistance when you press it down:D

Wow 1.5" off the floor. Mine’s about 1.5" from fully out!

my owner’s manual says you should about 1" of freeplay, less would cause premature waer on clutch. over time the clutch cable deteriorates and the cables inside can snap one at a time. so if turning that little knob doesnt help, then might wanna try getting a new cable.

mine grabs at the last 1 inch. It has 168,000 miles on it and is the original clutch.
