ive talked to a local machine shop and they gave me a price to rebuild the short block on a b16a- blockbore/ mill surface/ oversize pistons/crank polish/forged rods and bearings/rings and new gasket sets… all that for 2198, the head is being port+ polish, skunk2stage 2 cams, skunk2 valvetrain hardware, skunk2 camgears, skunk2 intake manifold, and 4-1 headers… am i wasting $$ on the b16a short block or should i do ls/vtec? ive saved up many months for this and now i need your help to guide me through this! any comments will be helpful!!
the b16a is capable of 200whp, but its not easy. I’m not sure how streetable it would be either just because everything would have to be so extreme.
whether you should stick w/ the b16a, go ls/vtec or go poorman’s itr all depends on what you want and what your specific needs are.
Found this on another site.
“Built by Steve “Omniman” Rothenbuehler of Skunk2 Racing.
ITR manfiold & TB, Skunk2 ECU, head, cams and valvetrain, race header, STOCK 99 Si bottom end.”
But this is hard to believe in my opinion especially with no mods whatsoever to the bottom. I have to see it to believe it. It’s tough enough to get 200whp out of a 1.8L, even more so with a 1.6.
i have an extra turbo ready b16 block
.020 over 8.5:1 dish top JE/SRP piston set.
ARP/EAGLE 4340 forged chromoly steel rods.
STOCK balanced crank.
STOCK lightened flywheel.
2 bran new clutches.
but if your stayin AM nevermind hahaha…

Leo i saw that car( Roger Foo’s old Speedvision touring car )… it has like 200 dyno pulls on it. and yah the block is stock and remember dyno numbers are higher with race gas
here’s some pics
Maybe it’s 204.3hp to the crank. You don’t achieve those kinda numbers on a b16 with a stock bottom end. Actually it’s pretty damn near impossible to achieve 200hp from a 1.6 without upping displacement. It’s not the hp rating I’m baffled about it’s the 129.4lbs of torque! Displacement is displacement and without increasing it you’re not going to get a substantial increase in torque. Some tegs with 200hp to the wheels only get 130lbs of torque!

dynos don’t read out to the crank numbers as far as i know.
race fuel.
sarcasm only:D

Don’t engine dyno’s read crank horespower?

yes but we know who’s car this particular dyno sheet belongs too. look at the pic above.

I thought you were making a general statement saying that you didn’t know dyno’s could read crank horsepower.

yeah… i meant, with the engine “in” the car

Ever heard of the B16B? It comes pretty damn close to 200hp and its STOCK!

teg92 please read my reply again before assuming. TIA!
hmm impressive… i guess i’ll go with rebuilding the b16a short block… my main goal is atleast get 200whp and just spray it with 100shot of nos
