Is there something wrong with my brakes?

Sometimes I like sitting in the car with the engine running just listening to the car  And I just find little stuff that could be wrong with the car. This time whenever I press the brake I can hear a mechanical thing moving(could be normal, but Iā€™m not sure). The thing is, whenever I release the brake, the idle surges up a bit, and if you listen closely it seems like air is releasing.

I donā€™t know if this is normal. Could someone explain what is happening? Is there something wrong with my brakes?

Oh and Iā€™m a newbie to cars, so I wonā€™t understand abbreviations or stuff like that, and Iā€™m not a mechanic but I have the Helms manual, so maybe you could point it out by telling where itā€™s at in the manual

It sounds to me like your ā€œBrake Boosterā€ has a vacuum leak. That would account for the hissing noise and the surge in idle.

Good luck

Thanks for the quick reply.

Would you know where I can find that in the helms manual? I have the downloaded version.

Another more questions  . Would this, at all, harm my car in anyway? Is it a big deal, like is it something I have to get it fixed right away? or can I just leave it?
