is this the factory stereo setup?

just bought a 91 GS. it has old pioneer two-ways in the doors and a rockford-fosgate punch amp/crossover in the driver’s door. is this anything resembling the stock setup, or did someone add some of those components. the tweeters at the top of the doors are also rockford-fosgate, but neither works. thanks for any clues.

no, that is not even close to factory. acura sold the integra with 2 pairs of paper-cone speakers (front and rear). and it came with 2 versions of a stereo cassette player and optional cd player mounted below the stereo. the door panels are easy to take off, if that helps!!!

are you sure there weren’t any factory tweeters? they’re recessed into the door and the holes look a lot like they’re orginal. and, crutchfield list components for this car, which would usually mean that there were original tweeters. interesting.

it isn’t that diffucult to make housings for components to look stock. if they had offered tweeters, it would have been with the bose system. and i don’t think they offered the bose system in the integra at all, not sure about the gs-r. i have the original brochures for all integra years, starting with 1990. don’t know why, i just collect that kind of crap.

If you have a GS or GS-R then you have pioneer speakers all around…pioneer 6.5 in the front, and pioneer two way 6.5 in the back…

…and my sedan’s stock Pioneers have lasted almost 12 years without need for replacing. I’ve upgraded every other audio component except them.

ok so i did some investigation… if this is the wrong place to be asking this kind of stuff, just let me know…

this is the box that i found in the door. it must be old because i can’t find any info on it. it only goes to the tweeters
this is the routing for the wires…
i think they did a pretty good job on the tweeters:
i have a feeling all this is not even worth any effort to restore. the only front speaker that works is the driver’s side 6.5. and i know the 6.5 in the pass. is a good speaker, it’s just not connected right. any clues as to the details of this system? i really don’t know much about stereos, but if it’s worth fixing i’d be willing to learn. thanks for any help.

Ye definately not stock. My teg came with pioneers as well, dual cones in the front and normal mids in the back.

In your case nitrocdiesel, the crimped on connectors, as well as different-than-stock wiring (and tweeters and crossover) gives it away.
Check all the connections, make sure they have decent contacts. Not much should go wrong with those speakers, especially since it seems they’re connected straight to the deck rather than an amp.

Check the wires, check the crossovers and each speaker; and go from there. Replacing anything would most probably just be a bolt on affair.

I think that some Gen 3 tegs came with splits up front, but i’m not 100% sure.

Yup, gen3 integra GS and GS-R’s came with em and Honda civic ex and si’s came with splits up front.

thanks for the info. i’m putting my pioneer reciever in, so it wouldn’t hurt to go ahead and run new wires, right? i know that running new wires to the doors is usually a pita, anything different about these?
