Issues with Adhesion

Hey Guys,

Ive been battling an issue with my DB1 for months and ive run out if ideas, so im turning to you guys for advice. When i bought my car, the door panel fabric was long gone, but by a stroke of luck i found a set of leather door panel pieces from a GS-L in my color but have been unable to get them to stay glued more than a week. Any adhesives or advice for me?

I’ve tried to do this before and have been unsuccessful as well. I believe there’s some heat/special glue involved to make it work best. I would suggest you bring the panels to an upholsterer. They can do magic.

Ive spoken to some upholstery shops in the area and have gotten quotes that are more than im willing to spend.

what adhesive are you using?

I used a leather adhesive (forgot what it was called, some home depot upholstery glue, and i even tried shingle glue

I used the 3M upholstery adhesive but that didn’t work either. I followed the instructions to wait for it to be tacky etc… It worked on other materials I used in the car, but just not for that panel. I ended up just cleaning it up and leaving the black vinyl underneath. Perhaps you don’t have the black vinyl?

Prep is the key for this and if you have any old adheasive anywhere it will not last. And if the adheasive you are using comes out as a mist instead of a web like texture it will not work on thicker materials

That’s true. But it still did not work for me! I even tried spraying both surfaces and making them get tacky but still nothing.

Now I’m wondering if I just got a bad batch of the glue (which has happened before – glue expires). But I have long since trashed the vinyl and original cloth. I’ve been happy with the black vinyl underneath (except in the back, which has the slots :frowning: )

I have to ask my friend what the name of the glue he gave me was. I had to use a spray gun and my compressor, he uses it for wrapping sub boxes and interior pieces in vinyl

Oh wow that’s news to me. I haven’t seen that application method before.
