I love this site myself… when I decided to get an older integra, and started having issues that were specific to the integra, I had found other sites (clubintegra) (Team-integra) and was often pointed here… since joining this community in particular I have rounded out my honda knowledge in the “Intregra” realm quite a bit…
That said what Mercer says rings true… these cars are getting older and are more of a Niche market car… with so many moving on to newer lower maintenance platforms (of course that is all a mater of opinion) it seems like G2 owners are more of a cult following than a club.
My honest opinion is that I am fine with that… of all the model years of the integra/RSX platform… the G2 stands out from the rest. Having fewer people here talking has the potential to create a closer knit community of enthusiasts. Seems like some of you old school guys all know each other well, which is part of the appeal to someone like me. I know coming here I am best likely to get accurate help versus some of the other “more popular” sites.
I think a lot of people have moved on over the years to different cars or have stopped modding altogether for many different reasons. I’ve seen a lot of blog posts and articles discussing how the next generations are not interested in cars in general anymore, not to even mention the car enthusiast/gearhead lifestyle. I’m thinking that maybe the lack of new members and the decline of posts has a lot to do with that. As people move on here, there are fewer and fewer to fill the ranks. It’s really too bad IMO.
But honestly, who can blame the younger generation for their car apathy given the circumstances. On one hand we have a trend for the past decade of automotive manufacturers offering less style, performance, and excitement for more and more money. On the other hand we have seen both laws and the enforcement of those laws become increasingly more strict in regards to speeding and illegal modifications. And to top it all off, the cost of living continues to increase while economic opportunity and wages either stagnate or go overseas. Lets face it, it makes less and less sense to dump money into cars the way we have, and I’m sure that’s how younger generations see it. What can you do. Well fuck it, gear head for life here.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head. One other thing is social media and smartphone use. You can barely get kids to unglue their faces from their smartphones, let alone focus that attention on hobbies that require hard work, dedication, and ingenuity, such as modding cars and helping others to do the same.
I’m still here…in spirit, but not in my G2. Bent valve (I’m guessing). I’m hoping it is not something extreme that damaged the motor, bus riding can suck sometimes. Happy Holidays to all:)

I’m a long time lurker, infrequent poster.
I got my first G2 Integra in 1998 and I think I found this website soon after, it has been a much used fantastic resource.
As the years go by, I do less to my car. Maybe there’ll be a big restoration in the future, but I’m thinking in a 5/10 year time-frame.
I hope g2ic.com will continue longterm, even if it is a bit quiet at times. It is appreciated hugely, thanks Neil.
In my country (Ireland), G2 Integras have almost disappeared on the roads.
Mine is the only one that I know of, that is on the road in my town.
I still check the forums everyday seeing if there is any advice that I can offer or learn something new myself! I just wish there was a way for me to earn a profile pic or some kinda premier member thing. I know neil stopped doing the donate and buy a sticker and be allowed to upload a profile pic thing…i think
I been slacking on my build thread but I’ve had my DB1 since '05 and keep talking about getting rid of it but I just can’t. Now that my DD BB2 is done I can focus on the DB and hopefully get this H2B swap done already. Plus until today I had been using the Facebook page a lot if you have that.

I agree with both you. It’s a combination of the trends of the hobby, age of the DA and disinterest of the younger crowd. I personally felt that a huge group of tuners (you could call them fare weather fans or band wagoners) dropped out after the economy worsened in the early 2000’s. What was left was a smaller group of enthusiasts going into the 2010’s. The younger generation just doesn’t care as much about cars or see it the same way as us. In addition to that there are obviously less DA’s in circulation all over the globe. It’s not simply a bolt on world for the DA anymore (although some treat them like it is) and purchasing one commits you to a near ground up build in most parts of the country if you want to do it the right way. The younger crowd that IS into cars seems to mimic the “instant gratification” found through the internet generation. They are more interested in bolting on the widest wheels they can fit, lowering the car and no engine mods whatsoever. For the ones interested in going faster, they usually look toward a bolt on ready STI, WRX, EVO etc. As for the guys on the board who have built some solid DA’s, they move on to the next level. I’ve owned my DA for almost ten years and I’ve become very interested in purchasing an S2000 in the next few years because I want an upgrade in performance. I’m generalizing a lot but I’m just trying to share my opinion. I’ve been on the board and active since 2003. They are definitely much slower than they used to be. However, as the DA’s becomes more of a classic, I predict that a good amount of restoration and ground up builds will continue to pop up.
DA’s are 20 year old cars. 10 years ago when these cars were plentiful and a common first car, there were quite a few people modifying them, even more driving them daily. That’s just not the case anymore. Also the scene has died down significantly. I remember driving around and at any time of the day any day of the week you would see 5-10 honda/acura’s that were modified. Im lucky if I see 1 nice honda a week. All that’s left are scrub cars that everyone wished would go away. Its a shame really, I miss cruising around on Friday nights with imports everywhere. We are going through the same thing the muscle car guys went through in the 80’s. Nothing but crap new cars and all of the muscle cars had all but evaporated.
And +1 for kids today. I don’t know if there will be a resurgence ever again the way the import scene exploded. although maybe thats what people were saying in the late 60’s and 70’s. and then came the 90’s and 2000’s.
Maybe in 10 years the kids will be fooling around with hybrids and electric cars, and we will all say why are you fooling with that thing it doesnt even make noise! 20,000 rpm electric motor? ill show you real power with 8000 rpm and VTEC! just like those old guys were saying to us… 4 cylinder? VTEC? Ill show you real power with 400 cubic inches and real torque! hahaha go figure, but just a thought
There are nicer “sportier” cars available now then there were ten years ago too, though… Suby’s, Evo’s, Cobalts etc etc. Many people have gone those routes and steered away from Honda in general.
i left my evo and love my db1…plan on getting another one soon, i think most people are just too broke anymore or theres not as many people who LOVE the da/db anymore…i go to a cruise and no one looks at my car even tho its probably one of the more modified cars in my city on the streets
I still check in every day, but do not post much. There are a few people who post in off topic that ruin the site for me. I have no patience for trolls. My g2 has been in storage for over four years. I sat in it on Friday for the first time in years. I have kids now and work long hours leaving not much time for the car hobby. There are fewer Integras on the road every day, and many parts are no longer available from the dealers. I’m sure that membership will continue to decline as only the purists will stick around.
I think a few select people have turned alot of people from posting on this site out of fear that some totally offtopic bash will be brought against them. 99% of the bashing is almost to the point of questioning WTF is going on in their head to randomly make some comments. Just sayin, some people as they have gotten older their maturity level has gone down. I tend to stick to my 370z forum. Most of the guys even the youung ones on their are down to earth and “normal” to say the least, everyong helps everyone. Also I will comment on the fact I think the mods on here dont drop the ban or edit hammer anywhere close to enough. The moderation that goes happens on the 370z forum keeps everything and everyone in check and well mannered. Here the total opposite. A few select members are allowed to behave and insert disturbing comments that hold no worth to many threads, which tends to kill the thread instantly…
