Just to clear things up. For all those that like me that got confused about Type R drive axles fiting in our G2I’s. Or not!
I finally got the info straitened out
US Drive axles, and hubs (obviously) are 32mm. (fit our cars)
JDM Drive axles, and hubs are 36mm. (Don’t fit our cars) require 36mm hubs.
I just decided to post this info to help anyone like me who was confuse.
I did a jdm itr swap, used the itr drive axles it came with, they worked perfectly, but two years later they were clicking, and I needed to replace them. But I put it off for a year cause all the info on weather itr axles will fit or not (That I could find) was conflicting.
So now that my shafts sound like they might break at any moment I finally figured out, the ITR axles I’ve got. Obviously. Must be US and not JDM because they are fit my stock hubs.
Are there any benefits in using the USDM ITR drive axle?
Are they stronger?
-off topic.
In your other post regarding the B18C-R.
You mention that you had it for 3 years now, how well did it hold up?
Any major overhauls? Did you drive the shit out of it ( bang the redline ) or you babied it? Be honest, there is noting wrong with babying your car… if that’s what you’re into. I’m trying to get some feed back on the B18C-R.
Short of Patrick’s track star, which goes to show how well a 98+ Spec B18C-R holds up, I’ve not heard any reviews on how well it hold up under hard driving and endless 8900 rpm pulls.
BTW… what year is your motor?
That’s a good question… something I would have been looking for before I did the swap.
Don’t get me wrong the car is my baby:cloud9:… But when I’m racing or just blowing off steam (which is just about whenever I drive it), I redline the crap out of it. Smashing into gears and so on. (Probably why the shafts are going)I’ve got a spoon JDM Type R 0BD2 ECU on it that redlines at 10g’s. And I bounce it off the redline more after then I’m proud to admit. I also made two big trips with her, one down to Texas, and one over to California. I’ve know put 112,000 on her, since I did the swap. I change the oil twice a year and run fully synthetic mobil one.
I’d recommend the engine to anyone, worth every penny.
So hope that answers your question. Sorry for the book!
I was wondering my self about weather or not the Type r drive axles are any better then the gsr axles, because unlike the gsr axles “which you can only get rebuilt”. from the Acura dealer. The Type R drive axles (only come brand new) from the dealer, and they cost $550 each.
So if anyone knows if there is a difference in durability. Id appreciate the input.
Side note… I will only run acura/honda brand name axles, due to that I’ve tried the best aftermarket axles I could get my hands on (Long before I did my swap) and they only would last me one year. and the worst part is they were lifetime warenteed, BUT after the first year when I replaced the. when they Broke the second time (another year later), they wouldn’t replace them again. (turns out when there lifetime warentied they’ll only replace them once)
The original Drive shafts to the car lasted 150,000+ miles, and the stock type R shafts my B18c came with lasted 112,000 miles

you used a hydro transmission didnt you?
the driver’s side axle will not fit at all (USDM or JDM) if you are using a cable transmission. the Cable transmissions use different intermediate shafts that have a male end on one side and female on the other. where the Hydro transmissions use a male end on both sides.
yea I did use the s80 hydro the type r comes with. I know about the male female axle. I like it better that way it makes eather side interchangable. couse there both the same length
having a “jdm” axle doesnt mean it’s going to be 36mm, 36mm axles only came on jdm 98spec itrs and all crvs. everything else, 96 spec itr, egs, das, eks, etc came with 32mm alxes. there is no difference in a usdm axle compared to a jdm (besides the 98spec R) nor does a gsr compared to a itr.
