while installing my water pump the bolt snapped in the hole. (eh beer)…So i drilled the bolt and tried to use an extractor to get the rest out. that broke inside the bolt. pulled the engine cause of clearence. so then we tried to drill that out with cobalt and all it did was make the hole wider and by the time we got it out it was to big to tap. then we tried heli coil it. works but now the hole is slightly off. so we decided we could take it to welder and have him fill it so we can re tap it.
can i fill this hole with jb weld instead? ive never used the stuff but was suggested to use it. dunno if its strong enough
i would say it depends on what hole it is, if its one that needs a decent amount of torque i wouldn’t think JB weld is gonna hold up. i’ve used the stuff in the past and had it fail before so i would say just have it welded up and retap it
fill the hole up with jb weld, install your old water pump. now tap the hole with the jb weld, this should help guide your tap for a perfect fit.
i will always love jb weld. i had to use it on a valve to fill a hole and retap for a bolt that was holding 600lbs steam system on a naval ship back in the days. it held up fine during our deployment. go jb weld!
JB weld can be used to fix it and be very effective, if you do use JB make sure you clean the hell out of the area, mix the JB right, and let it fully cure before doing anything with it. as you also mentioned if you can, you should always fix things the right way by taking it to the welder to fill it and retap that way. which ever route you decide good luck with it
