so my gauge cluster redlines at like 7,100 or so, if i switch to the jdm cluster it redlines at like 8. well, if i hook it up will my redline change? is it safe to rap out an ls at that much rpms? and is it easy to hook up a jdm cluster? and if i swap it, will my registration change becuase of the mileage on the cluster or somthing like that? confused and need help!
I dont think it will change you redline, unless you mess with the ecu.
I think the ls redline should be 6800.
X2^ Unless you chip the ECU and build the motor to withstand higher RPM the engine is going to red line the same as before. The gauge cluster dont have nothing to do with the performance of the engine.
Nice please don’t ever answer a question like you know something.
To answer your question though, your cluster is just an input device that displays what is sent to it. So no, installing a jdm cluster will not give you and increase in horsepower, nor affect your engine in anyway. Though if you have vtec and your speed cable is not hooked up it will not work.
To rev your engine higher you have to eliminate or adjust your rev limiter.

Are you talking to me? If you are, please give me an explanation on what i said wrong. To eliminate or adjust your rev limiter, dont you need to chip the ecu to do so? And from what you are saying in your post is the same thing i was saying but in a longer sentence not including the VTEC stuff. Plus honda test all the engine’s to there braking point, so the ls motor’s rev is set at its top safe limit. Its all up to how strong the engine is if it can even handle higher RPM’s. Am i wrong??
oh i see, but is it bad to swap a cluster because of the miles on the cluster
I dont know how your laws are where your at but in Cali you can swap a cluster but have to let the DMV know that you did so. So if you end up selling the car the DVM wont ask you to put the mileage down.
Im sure theres a way to alter a cluster so its accurate to your orignal miles. Even if it is twisting something or taking it apart and moving something. JDM clusters are kinda annoying IMHO, dont really know your correct speed in MPH. Also i dont think you can wire up the O2 light, or without lots of wiring atleast. Correct me if im wrong.
that was my next question, are they just plug and play or do you have to rewire stuff?
99% positive its just plug and play, Just wont have a plug for the O2 light.
alright, yea my car has a swapped cluster. my car came with abs but i guess im missing some abs components and the cluster doesnt have an abs light on it so i figured it was swapped right away. also the fact that the low gas warning light wont come on which sucks because from half way to empty, it goes down fast so you can never really tell how much gas you have
No I meant to say Nick not nice. Sorry for the confusion lol. I see ///nick post in so many threads giving advice and its always wrong.
Its all good Deceptakhan.

It is possible to keep the accurate miles on the cluster. I did this with my CDN GSR cluster but it still has the KPH on the face, all you have to do is take off the needle then pull the odometer mechanism out and put it in the new cluster. That way there is no confusion on the cars actual mileage.
sorry for thread jacking but does the gas hand auto adjust when u put the cluster in?
Like any cluster, it will adjust when you start your car.
If all you are after is the tachometer, then you can just swap that from the JDM cluster to the one you have and still use the MPH speedometer with your original mileage. It’s all a matter of taking the cluster apart.
