Ok so me and my cousin just installed my one pieces and wired the fogs. Everything was ok until we tested it. When I start the car the headlight turns on, sort of like a Daytime Running Light. We only messed with the foglight switch, that’s it. Anybody got any ideas as to what’s goin on?
What do you mean,
We only messed with the foglight switch
???
Sounds to me like you did a fog light switch rewire and connected the wrong end of cut red/yellow to an ign. source, power from ign. source would back-feed to the left head light lead.
Try this, remove fuse 4 - 10A, [left low beam fuse], if right head light goes out, [probably left and right front side markers also] then that is what has happened.:stare: 94
PS, If not then let me know what you did with the fog light switch.
Yeah we did the foglight switch rewire. My cousin figured it out already, the wire that we used was too thin, it was really hot when he pulled it out. What does that mean? Was it wired incorrectly? As soon as we took that wire off everything went back to normal. Should I use a 12 gauge wire instead?
It was not wired properly, as I said, it sounds like you connected the wrong wire.
If you used the Teg Tips you would have cut the red/yellow lead going to the fog light switch, connected the fog light switch end of the lead to a lead on the rear defrost switch, [hot when ign. switch is on] and caped off the other cut end to prevent a short, what it sounds like you did was connect the end that you were suppose to cap off, to the rear defrost switch lead, so when you turn on the ign. the lead at the defrost switch goes to 12V+, that 12V+ back-feeds to the left low beam lead and back into the fuse box through fuse 4 and then out of fuse box again through fuse 3 to the right low beam.
That’s about a 20A current draw on a lead meant for no more then about 2A, [fog light relay and fog light switch indicator bulb], that’s why it got hot, and could have resulted in your car burning to the ground.
What you need to do is, using the cut lead, [red/yellow] comming from the fog light switch, extend that lead long enough to reach the fuse box and plug it into one of the free pins, either the 2nd. ign. free pin or the park light free pin.:whisper:94
